The Predator’s “last hunt” is coming (and it could feature a Marvel hero)
By Mark Lynch
Marvel’s next Predator comic book could be the last hunt for one of the Yautja or an original character.
The acquisition of The Predators was one of Marvel’s best. The Yautja hunters are among the greatest killers in any genre. Their technology and toughness has kept them alive and hunting for centuries. It’s also made their movies incredibly popular.
In 2022, Marvel published The Predator’s first Marvel comic book. It was written by Ed Brisson with art by Kev Walker. Recently, Marvel has stepped things up. One of the Yautja has been in a decades-long battle with Wolverine (in an arc written by Benjamin Percy). According to Marvel, the Yautja’s next comic book run could be someone’s last hunt.
When Brisson started Predator, it came with an original character named Theta. A character whose parents were killed by one of the Yautja. According to Marvel.com, Theta has a new mission. She’ll attempt to save captives from the Predator Stasis Farms. A place where the Yautja hunts humans for pleasure.
Brisson has teased fans with what’s to come for both the character and the Predator, revealing:
"Theta has been carrying a lot of guilt over the events of the last arc and has made it her mission to find the Predator Stasis Farms and free the hundreds (thousands?) of prisoners being held for the Predators’s hunting pleasure—at the same time, her 20 plus years of Predator hunting is all coming to a head as she suddenly finds herself in the crosshairs as it becomes clear that her mission may be a trap.”"
What’s next for Marvel’s Predator
Of course, this won’t be the end of the Predators. They’ve only been around for a couple of years and they haven’t battled anyone outside of Wolverine’s mini-series. It helps that Ed Brisson said, “We have a fun surprise in store for long-time fans of the Predator comics, but that’s about as much as I’ll say on it for now!”
Predator vs Wolverine debuting around the time of this series likely isn’t a coincidence. Marvel Comics has to have something planned for these characters. So far, the closest Predators have gotten to fighting Wolverine has been on variant comic book covers.
Bringing them to Marvel and not having them fight the Avengers or Spider-Man would be a waste. Hopefully, this series concludes with Yautja’s next battle hinting at an event where it’s the Predators vs the Marvel Universe.
Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow to find out if that happens.
What do you think of this? Is there a Marvel Comics character you’d like to see the Predator fight next?
