Moon Knight season 2: Is the Fist of Khonshu returning for more lunar lunacy? Here’s everything we know (and don’t know) about it so far.

The moon shines bright, and it’s a great time to be a Moon Knight fan. The first season gave us multiple personalities, a moon god, and a chatty hippo and left us here, waiting and waiting for a second season.

While we held our breath for a while before any kind of news was shared regarding the series’ future – Merry Christmas! We have some new updates to share with you; some good, some slightly concerning.

Moon Knight season 2 hasn’t been confirmed, but is rumored to be happening

While we had nothing but speculations and mysterious tweets and TikToks to get us by when it comes to season 2 updates, we now have a somewhat concrete announcement to share.

Marvel insiders are reporting that the second season for Moon Knight is indeed in the works:

Moon Knight season 2 might be longer than season 1

Good news! While Marvel has yet to confirm its plans, rumors are circulating that we are getting more than six episodes in season 2. Which is great! But, as far as any kind of news regarding the production and development of season 2, what we do have is enough speculation to keep everyone happy and daydreaming about what could happen.

With the pacing of Marvel’s production schedule, it’s not out of the realm of possibilities that we could be looking at a… brace yourselves – Spring 2026 for a season 2 release. Let’s hope I’m wrong and bad at math (which I am), and keep our fingers crossed for a more concrete release date plan or whatever they’re calling it these days.

The first season consisted of an abundance of personalities and Egyptian deities. But what could season 2 encompass? It’s proving to be a little like predicting which of Marc’s personalities will show up next, so good luck trying to find anything concrete. However, there is speculation that Jake Lockley, another one of Marc’s personalities who is actually rather dangerous, might play a role in the show’s second season.

Also worth noting: Marc’s evil brother, Randall, might return as Shadow Knight – another of Khonshu’s celestial minions. What a nice little family reunion that could be.

Oscar Isaac hinted Moon Knight season 2 might have already been underway

Oscar Isaac, who plays Marc aka Moon Knight, initially saw the show as a limited series, but a new beacon of hope was lit in August 2022 when a  little teaser was sent our way all the way from Cairo.

In a TikTok video, Moon Knight director Mohamed Diab was asked if there was going to be another season of the MCU series. He pretends to be confused before the camera cuts to Issac who seemed to hint that he was in Cairo because production was underway on season 2:

Isaac would later go on to tell Comicbook that talks were indeed underway telling the outlet:

"“There have been some specific conversations.  They were pleasant. The spilling of the details it that there’s no details. We don’t know [if there will be a second season], but we’re talking about it.”"

Kevin Feige teased a future for Moon Knight in the MCU

Although Kevin Feige is often a man of little words when approached about spoilers and the status of future projects, the mastermind of the MCU revealed in a February 2023 interview with EW that he indeed sees Moon Knight as a character that will return to the MCU. As he told the outlet at the time:

"“The fun thing about streaming is they are there forever, and people can keep re-exploring them. Moon Knight, same thing. I think there’s a future for that character as we move forward.”"

No plans have been confirmed since, but the vote of support from Feige is huge and could mean Marvel has big plans in store for the character.

Moon Knight season 2 could see a lot more of Jake Lockley

Throughout the first season of Moon Knight, fans anxiously awaited the arrival of the character’s third key persona: Jake Lockley. We finally got a glimpse of Jake in the season finale in a moment that left fans wanting more from the character. Well, it seems the fans aren’t alone.

During an interview with ComicBook.com, season 1 director Mohamed Diab revealed that he really wants to explore the character of Jake Lockley more in season 2.

"“I want to see his world. Everyone is so intrigued about him and [I want to] see what happens in between those blinks and who he is and what does he love and who does he love. It’s very interesting for me,” Diab explained. “But I love that the small things that we put all through the episode made people, every episode, waiting for Jake, waiting for Jake, waiting for Jake. But I think it, he was introduced in the right time at the very end, knowing that Khonshu still has a hold on them.”"

Who might be in the cast of Moon Knight season 2?

When I originally scribbled this article, I said that “it is absolutely safe to say that, if a season 2 were to exist, Oscar Isaac would absolutely be coming back”. But… I did see an update that left me a little concerned.

Apparently, Marvel is rebooting the Moon Knight series and it could mean Oscar Isaac might not be needed anymore due to a change in character. While this could be just crossed wires, or someone misunderstood because they didn’t clean their ears well enough, or maybe it is true and we will have a new face for our hero is yet to be fully confirmed. I do hope and have a feeling we’ll still see Isaac as Marc Spector, though.

Regardless of what Marvel does decide on the Moon Knight front, a god needs his prophet. F. Murray Abraham, who voiced the mysterious Khonshu, would likely be reprising his performance as the moon god once again. And let’s not forget May Calamawy, who plays Layla El-Faouly. We also assume she would be returning for a second season.

As for Arthur Harrow… Normally, taking a bullet to the head usually screams “Oh, hey, thanks for the excellent work but your role is over.” But hey, we are talking about Marvel, who likes to somehow bring characters back. What I’m trying to say is that apparently, nothing is impossible in the franchise.
