6 great TV shows cancelled too soon (and 5 that ran too long)
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow
Seasons: 7
You might find it unusual that a TV show that ran for seven seasons has ended up topping our “cancelled too soon” half of this list, but to that argument I say this: Any TV show that was successful enough to run for seven seasons should never find itself on the wrong end of cancellation. Never.
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow was the Arrowverse’s wacky offshoot that we all fell in love with; the show that found strength in separating itself from all of the seriousness going on in The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, or Batwoman and one that just had a blast being as absolutely unhinged as it wanted to be.
Seven seasons in, it was still having a great time, and so were the audiences watching it, as it experienced quite a major increase in viewership over season 6, remaining one of The CW’s most consistent programs in an era that had more lows than highs. Its untimely cancellation was the result of the new direction that both The CW network and Warner Bros. were undergoing at the time under new respective leaderships. And that meant that it ended on a major cliffhanger, which is an outcome that the fans – and the Legends – just didn’t deserve.
Legends could have sustained itself for another few years, but we’re not saying that is what should have happened. That said, the show deserved at least one more season to wrap the story up and give the fans – and, again, the Legends – the ending they deserve. It’s the least they deserve.
Verdict: Cancelled too soon
