Supernatural

Seasons: 15

Nobody can take Supernatural‘s incredible 15-season run away from it. The show outlasted all of the WB shows that joined it in making the jump over to The CW early into its run and it became the network’s longest-running show. That level of popularity isn’t easy to achieve, and it managed to do it, running for over 300 episodes – something that is unheard of, especially for a supernatural drama.

That being said, when you look into its history and discover that it was actually supposed to end after season 5, it shows. Like, it really shows.

Creator Eric Kripke’s vision for his TV show was a five-season run with a bittersweet ending, but its popularity saw it achieve something far more bittersweet: A sixth season renewal. From there, the show just moved from season to season, episode to episode, villain to villain, as it existed without a purpose.

Don’t get us wrong, there are some cracking episodes of Supernatural after season 5. Heck, there are some great seasons in there too. But you can clearly divide everything that happens on the show into two categories: Before and after it should have ended. And the decline in standard without that endgame, without that original vision, is clear.

Verdict: Ran too long
