6 great TV shows cancelled too soon (and 5 that ran too long)

The Walking Dead

Seasons: 11

Wow oh wow did The Walking Dead have the world in the palm of its hand in its glory days. Between its second and fifth seasons, everyone was watching it. And yet somehow, its best days of viewership were still ahead of it, as 17 million people tuned into its season 7 premiere!

And then everything went downhill.

Honestly, the rot had begun to set in on The Walking Dead in the midst of its sixth season, as repetitive storytelling and drawn out debuts began to hinder it, but it was all reversible. Unfortunately, due to the shenanigans surrounding Negan’s long-awaited debut (and a poor first season for him), it wasn’t long before the show’s viewership began to freefall.

The series did turn things around in some of its later seasons, but its mid-run struggle was a sign that maybe it was time to let the show end on its own terms. It ultimately did do that, but not before completing 11 seasons.

11 seasons of the original TWD sounds amazing, but the show it eventually became just didn’t feel the same, especially as Andrew Lincoln departed as Rick Grimes in season 9.

We’re in a wonderful era of the TWD Universe with multiple spinoffs continuing the stories of our favorite characters, but we can’t help but wonder if the excitement for them would be higher had The Waking Dead bowed out a little earlier.

Verdict: Ran too long
