15. Maggie

I’m just going to say it: Maggie could very well be the performance of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s career.

The 2016 movie sees him in the midst of a zombie apocalypse that the world has just about brought itself back from the brink of as he struggles with the fact that his daughter (Abigail Breslin) is infected. The idea of Schwarzenegger going up against zombies in the apocalypse sounds like the best action flick ever (and why hasn’t that been made yet?), but that’s not what Maggie was nor where its charm lay.

This was a dramatic, moving film about a man struggling with loss, grief, and fear, reminiscing on a past of fond memories and some mistakes, all while facing the reality that he will eventually lose his daughter. It’s a hauntingly good movie that provides Arnold with a vehicle to deliver the most powerful and nuanced performance of his career.

While the movie may not be for everyone, Maggie is worth the watch alone to see Schwarzenegger at his absolute finest. And we hope that we get to see him star in more of these types of films in the years ahead, because he is so darn good at it.
