27. Killing Gunther

Killing Gunther is perhaps the most overlooked movie in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s filmography, and there’s a simple reason for that: Not a lot of people know it exists. A mockumentary action comedy film, it’s all about a team of assassins who unite to kill the world’s most effective hitman: Gunther.

Of course, Schwarzenegger is the titular character and he delivers a hilarious, over-the-top for-no-reason-whatsoever kind of performance that brings Killing Gunther to life. It’s not that the movie isn’t fun (heck, I knew it was going to be as soon as I saw the first trailer), it’s that it often feels overplayed or like it simply lasts too long. Nevertheless, when Gunther is on-screen, it’s a hoot and the rivalry between him and the leader of the assassins, Blake, really sells the movie.

26. Aftermath

After Maggie saw Arnold’s career move in a different direction, he starred in Aftermath. Based on the tragic real life Überlingen mid-air collision, the movie was released in 2017. The actor plays a man named Roman, who loses his wife and pregnant daughter, and sets out to avenge those losses.

Like Maggie, it’s not your typical Arnold Schwarzenegger movie, but it does feature a strong dramatic performance from him. It also doesn’t lose itself by evolving into an action movie midway through like Collateral Damage did.

While the film itself wasn’t that well-received by critics, the actor’s powerful performance was praised.
