23. Junior

You might be a bit surprised to see Junior higher on this list than you probably expected it to be, but you know what, the movie has a lot going for it. For starters, it has Arnold in a comedic role, which as you’ll come to learn from this list, is one of his most underappreciated talents. He’s great in comedy movies, and he’s great in Junior.

What’s also great about Junior is the fact that he’s once again working alongside his Twins co-star, Danny DeVito, as well as reteaming with that movie’s director Ivan Reitman (who also directed Schwarzenegger in Kindergarten Cop). It didn’t all come together as seamlessly as it did the previous times Arnold collaborated with Reitman, but it worked nonetheless.

The movie sees Arnold’s character Alex, a geneticist, agree to test a fertility drug on himself when he and his colleague (DeVito) can’t get FDA approval. Naturally, it results in him getting pregnant. The two attempt to keep it a secret and monitor Alex’s pregnancy journey, but things get complicated when he attempts to start a relationship with Dr. Diana Reddin (Emma Thompson).

Not all of Junior‘s laughs land, and some of the humor hasn’t exactly aged well, but its high-concept storyline, committed performances and often heartwarming character journeys do guide it through. It’s not of the caliber of Schwarzenegger’s other collaborations with DeVito and/or Reitman, but it’s a nostalgic ’90s movie guaranteed to make you feel all the emotions on a rainy afternoon.

If anything, it will leave you quoting “I want my Larry” for days.
