Batman: All 13 Bruce Wayne actors ranked from worst to best
4. Kevin Conroy
Kevin Conroy has gone down in history as the definitive version of Batman for so many people. Heck, it’s the reason that he’s one of the only voice actors to appear on this list, because for a whole generation of kids, he is (and always will be) the voice of Batman. The same goes for his portrayal of Bruce Wayne.
Conroy approached the role from two different angles, being the first voice actor to use a different type of voice when playing Bruce Wayne and Batman. His iconic firm and powerful outing as Batman is well-documented at this point, but his performance as Bruce Wayne was equally as impressive.
The light to the Batman’s shade, Conroy’s Bruce was smooth and charismatic, pleasant and charming, and when he needed to be, direct and sarcastic. This is who Bruce Wayne should be; a man that just oozes charm and approachability. You got the sense that this man was a calm and successful businessman who liked helping others, you understood why people revered him but you were also slightly intimidated by how much of a larger-than-life personality he was, and that’s the kind of public persona that Bruce Wayne should be.
When in public, Bruce had such a polite and friendly nature that seemed so effortlessly charming for Conroy that it almost sounded like he was singing the lines (especially when compared to the more gruff approach he took for Batman). The late, great star nailed the duality of the role and his performance will live on forever as the greatest voice performance in The Dark Knight’s history.
It was awesome to finally see him get to bring a live-action Bruce Wayne to life – albeit a very different one – in the Arrowverse’s Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover.
