11. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice / Justice League
When Ben Affleck was cast as Batman in the DC Extended Universe, audiences didn’t know what to expect. But whenever they saw him perform in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, any raised eyebrows were firmly lowered, because Affleck certainly delivered (even if the movie itself didn’t quite hit the mark).
Part of what made the veteran actor so convincing in the iconic role was the suit. Zack Snyder wanted to pay tribute to Frank Miller’s iconic The Dark Knight Returns through his adaptation of Batman, and that came across so clearly in the Batsuit.
With an all-grey uniform (the first modern Batsuit to sport such a comic-accurate look) and a large Bat symbol spread across its chest, Affleck’s suit looked like it had been taken straight from Miller’s graphic novel. The same could be said for the cowl, cape, and gauntlets, as they all had bore intentional similarities to the source material.
The only thing that lets it down is that it occasionally looks a little clunky, coming off as being heavier than it should be. That’s a recurring issue with all of the DCEU Batman’s Batsuits, but this is the one that’s least noticeable. And, more than anything, it’s an incredible tribute to one of DC Comics’ most iconic stories.
