13. The DCEU’s Knightmare Batsuit

We love it when an image that belongs in the pages of a comic book comes to life on the silver screen. That’s exactly what happened in the DCEU when we first caught a glimpse of Ben Affleck’s Batman wearing what we now call the Knightmare Batsuit in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

For reference, it’s essentially the beautiful DCEU Batsuit (which we’ll get to shortly) but with brown combat pants, a long brown trenchcoat, goggles on the cowl and a face scarf. It’s very Mad Max, which makes it perfect for the dystopian future-set Injustice-inspired vision for a world where Superman has turned evil that keep haunting Bruce’s dreams.

The look takes some cues from the Dracula-like look Batman dons in the Elseworlds tale Gotham by Gaslight but this is almost all Zack Snyder here. And it’s such a vivid image that it was recently adapted into the comic books. Now how’s that for a full circle moment?

Affleck looked incredible in this one and it was a delight to see it make another cameo appearance in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The only thing preventing it from coming a little higher is the lack of content we have to go on. If only we got to see what the real Knightmare adventure could have looked like.
