Peacock’s original show Twisted Metal gets renewed for a second season, and you should be excited.

Twisted Metal is one of the first video games released on the PlayStation 1 console. While the demolition game has a storyline, it isn’t what it’s known for. That’s why it was shocking that it was picked up to become a TV series.

Peacock (one of the newer streaming services) took a chance on the show. The critics on Rotten Tomatoes only gave it 68%, but the audience rated it at 94%. This helped prove that viewers are enjoying the series. It makes sense that it was renewed for a second season.

A lot of things that could have gone wrong. While the audience enjoyed it, there wasn’t much buzz online. This usually means people aren’t watching it. Shows don’t normally get renewed if it’s not talked about. Even if the reviews are bad, as long as people are talking, it’s a good sign. Velma is a good example of this. People were watching it to say they didn’t like it.

A League of Their Own, Winning Time, and Young Rock were all canceled this year. The one thing each of those projects have in common are well-known names. A League of Their Own was a popular movie. It returned with a cast full of well-known performers. Young Rock is about superstar and beloved actor Dwayne Johnson’s rise to stardom. HBO/Max’s Winning Time followed the biggest rivalry in NBA history at their height.

Meanwhile, the latest Twisted Metal game was in 2012. It’s not something people are breaking their necks to see. Nevertheless, after watching the show, it’s not surprising people loved it.

Why Peacock’s Twisted Metal rocked

Peacock’s Twisted Metal was a combination of everything someone could want from an action project and the PlayStation franchise. Of course, there’s a lot of violence involving vehicles. Like in the video game, the trucks, cars, and more are enhanced in creative ways. Because the concept is silly, some of the show was as well. However, the creative team managed to make it make sense.

The casting team had an important job. They needed to bring in people who’d keep viewers interested and couldn’t have done a better job. For example, Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz were the perfect choices to lead this show. Their chemistry was flawless, and their storyline brought comedy and heart to the show.

The combination of Nuufolau Joel “Samoa Joe” Seanoa and Will Arnett as Sweet Tooth has to be mentioned too. Joe was Sweet Tooth while Arnett did the voice. Who would have thought this was a union we needed? Teaming him up with Stu (played by Mike Mitchell) was a match made in apocalyptic heaven.

This writer can’t forget Thomas Haden Church’s character Stone. Stone was the right antagonist to get fans to hate. While it seems like he died at the end of season 1, no one saw a body. He could reappear in season 2.

What’s next for Twisted Metal?

Season 2 of Twisted Metal ended with a few cliffhangers. First, John Doe’s sister is still alive and she’s looking for him. Whether it’s for love or harm remains to be seen. Viewers learn this because she stopped Quiet on her mission to help people in need. Who knows what will happen to Quiet when she finds out about their relationship.

At the end of the show, Raven blackmails John Doe. With that came the setup of the demolition derby everyone wants to see. The season 1 finale was only a taste. Season 2 will rev things up to a ten. If Samoa Joe’s Instagram post or the teaser above are any indication, Sweet Tooth will return, and he’ll want revenge.

There’s a lot to look forward to. Thankfully, Twisted Metal’s renewal means we’ll be able to see it. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow to find out what’s next.
