2. Batman (1989) / The Flash

The Batcave may be Batman’s base of operations, but it’s also an incredibly haunting and unsafe environment. After all, it’s a place where a man driven to fight crime dressed as a giant bat feels at home. No movie nailed that better than Tim Burton’s classic Batman (1989).

Designed like a cave out of an old horror movie, this one is inherently dark. The light is dim, creating unnerving shadows on the endless rock formations of the cave wall, while a bottomless pit looms below the Batmobile’s parking space. No, it’s not exactly safe for just anyone to wander in, but Batman feels at home in it. It also leans into the “Bat” element of it a lot more, with the creatures of the night occupying the stalactites above.

It also looks like the workstation for a master detective like Batman, with the Batcomputer sitting at the top of a modified staircase, and an ergonomic computer chair for the Dark Knight to sit comfortably in while doing his work. The dated technology really adds to the nostalgic feel of it.

When this Batcave returned in The Flash, there were some slight modifications, including the waterfall exit, but it mostly remained the same, and that was a nice touch – because in all honesty, it’s perfect.
