Marvel Comics reignites the Wolverine and Sabretooth rivalry in an upcoming comic book series.

For the past three years, Benjamin Percy has been writing Wolverine. During that time, he’s maintained the character’s popularity. However, Sabretooth has been absent during this run. That absence will change in an upcoming series titled Wolverine: Sabretooth War.

Benjamin Percy revealed to Marvel.com,

"“Sabretooth is the definition of big bad—one of the nastiest, cruelest, scariest villains in the 616 and Wolverine’s greatest nemesis. Which is exactly why we haven’t allowed their stories to intersect—during this age of Krakoa—until now."

Marvel Comics has been preparing for Wolverine: Sabretooth War longer than you realize. During Sabretooth and the Exiles, Victor Creed came across multiple versions of himself. At the end of the mini-series, he says a friend has a birthday coming up. Victor’s “friend” is Logan.

On Wolverine’s birthday, Victor makes it a point to visit Logan and attack him. It’s a ritual that he’s made a point to never miss. Considering this is Logan’s 50th anniversary with Marvel Comics, this seems like an appropriate way to celebrate it.

Something big always happens during milestone anniversaries. When it comes to Logan, that could mean anything, but nothing good. He’s lost so much along the way that it’s hard to think more could be taken from him. However, that’s the beauty and tragedy with Logan’s lore. Just when you think things can’t get worse for the character, they do. With Sabretooth involved, they will become more disastrous.

Going up against Sabretooth is bad enough, but that’s not all. The X-Men: Fall of X storyline will coincide with this as well. To recap, Wolverine will have to fight Sabretooth, his variants, Orchis, and who knows what else by himself. The best part of this story will be how Logan overcomes the odds. Well, if he overcomes them.

Also joining Benjamin Percy is Sabretooth and The Exiles writer Victor LaValle. Since he was the head writer of the most recent two Sabretooth stories, it makes sense he’d team up with Benjamin Percy. In both his mini-series, LaValle reminded fans that Victor Creed is more than an animal; he can be a brilliant strategist as well.

Together, Percy and Lavalle will create a story worthy of Wolverine’s 50th birthday. Brace yourself, this is probably going to be gritty, violent, and full of claws.

Marvel Comics’ Wolverine: Sabretooth War begins in January 2024. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow to find out how this story goes and ends.
