These are the best 20 characters in Supernatural history ranked from worst to best and what put them above everyone.

Every few years a show comes along that’s beloved by millions. That doesn’t mean the program is going to last. There are a ton of projects on TV that don’t last despite being popular. Firefly is a perfect example. It remains a classic two decades later. Some shows break out, become popular, and last years longer than anyone could have expected. That’s Supernatural.

Writer and showrunner Eric Kripke said that Supernatural wasn’t supposed to go past season 5. As fans have seen, it lasted another decade. It could have gone on to produce 20 seasons and remained popular. A lot of that comes from the characters being phenomenal.

The writers did an outstanding job making the heroes, villains, and misunderstood of Supernatural. For example, characters like Dean Winchester (played by Jensen Ackles) Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki), and Castiel (Misha Collins) are among the many iconic protagonists they created. Decades from now, people will still talk about how great they were. And it wasn’t just them. Almost everyone who appeared was memorable.
