There has never been a character like Castiel. He wasn’t supposed to be a recurring character and ended up being the heart of the team and Supernatural in general.
His naivete was adorable. No matter how long he was on Earth, he never understood jokes. This was also why he was so funny. You never knew what he was going to say or how he’d react. Even after he gained knowledge he remained oblivious.
In the end, Castiel’s sacrifice was heartbreaking and heartwarming. His last words were about his love for Dean. It explained why he was so angry at him. Castiel cared about him more deeply than anyone knew. At least he got to express himself before he died.
1. Dean Winchester
Actor: Jensen Ackles

No one reading this is shocked that Dean is number 1. He *was* Supernatural. First, he was the best hunter in the world. Not just because he could kill. Dean never gave up. He could be up against a hundred vampires and fight to his last breath. Second, he was the funniest person on the show. If there was a joke there, he’d find it. Plus, no one had more one-liners than him.
All the jokes and action are great, but that’s only half of what makes Dean the best. He had more heart than anyone. He’d hide how he felt, but always managed to get over himself. This complexity made Dean Winchester one of the greatest characters in TV history.
