It's been a big year for television. From broadcast debuts that made an impact to long-awaited streaming phenomenons (that did indeed become streaming phenomenons), 2024 has had plenty of high-quality television to offer. And it's a good thing too, because this year was a little quieter on the cinematic front, as a number of major genre films that were supposed to premiere at some point in 2024 had to be delayed until next year.
But hey, TV had our back with plenty of excellent adventures to keep us entertained. Superman and Lois Lane returned for another season of superheroing on The CW, and they weren't the only iconic comic book duo who got in on the action. The Walking Dead Universe brought Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira back as Rick Grimes and Michonne in the heavily-anticipated The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, while Melissa McBride's Carol Peleteir joined bestie Norman Reedus for the second season of Daryl Dixon, a.k.a. The Book of Carol. And the Dead Boy Detectives headlined their own, brilliant show for Netflix.
Elsewhere, Marvel Studios delivered the critically-acclaimed, season-appropriate Agatha All Along to entertain us through the spooky season, while Netflix's Heartstopper made us feel all of the feels with an emotional, heartfelt third season that also earned it critical acclaim. And let's not forget The Penguin, which took us back into Matt Reeves' cinematic world of The Batman and allowed Colin Farrell's classic Batman villain to thrill us for eight gripping episodes.
Yes, TV has been good to us this year. Unfortunately, this year wasn't always good to television, as there are a number of wonderful shows that fans fell in love with (either this year or prior to that) that simply won't be back for another outing next year.
From premature cancellations and completed multi-season runs to gap years and uncertain return dates, here are the shows we shouldn't expect to see grace the 2025 release schedule.
