Following the extraordinary success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it's frankly no surprise that people are talking about a potential fifth film. Though production has yet to be confirmed, Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige told Variety that "there are always plans" when asked if Tom Holland will appear in another Spider-Man movie. Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton also told Deadline he is interested in directing a sequel.
Though the MCU has done four solo Spider-Man movies so far, his character still has decades' worth of comic book material to draw from. The franchise has already set up plenty of exciting stories to take place after Brand New Day. As fans hold their breath for the web-slinger's return in the MCU, here's what they may see from Spider-Man 5, should Marvel and Sony choose to make it.
1. Symbiote Spider-Man appears
Spider-Man: No Way Home saw Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) leave a drop of the Venom symbiote during his brief time in the MCU. Though Brand New Day didn’t return to that plot line, fans could finally see Tom Holland’s character gain his infamous alien costume in the next film.
Since the comics showed Peter first bonding with Venom during the original Secret Wars comic, fans could finally see Peter acquire the symbiote in the sixth Avengers movie. This means that Peter could already have it on him when Spider-Man 5 begins.
2. Black Cat appears
Fans have waited years for Felicia Hardy to make her live-action debut as Black Cat. Though the character has appeared in non-MCU projects like Spider-Noir and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, audiences have yet to see her don her iconic cat burglar persona on the big screen.
Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman told Variety that the studio is no longer developing any spin-off movies centered on Spider-Man villains, including Black Cat. Marvel Studios now seems free to add her to the MCU. And the timing couldn't be better. Since Peter and MJ continue to be broken up after Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Felicia could become the web-slinger’s new love interest and crime-fighting partner.
3. Miles Morales becomes Spider-Man
Since Holland can't play Peter Parker forever, the question of who will succeed him as Spider-Man lingers. Who better to wear the mask next than Miles Morales?
Feige recently told China's Watching Hollywood that Miles Morales won’t be introduced until after the 2027 release of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. It’s unlikely that Marvel will have Spider-Man 5 ready before then, so Miles could be eligible to appear in the MCU in that movie.
Spider-Man: Homecoming already confirmed that Miles existed as the nephew of Aaron Davis. By the time that Spider-Man 5 begins, Miles could be old enough to help Peter fight crime as the new Spider-Man.
4. MJ regains her memories of Peter Parker
Peter and MJ's romantic relationship remains a major part of the Spider-Man franchise, even after the latter lost her memory of him in No Way Home. Though Peter told MJ the truth about their past together in Brand New Day, she said she still doesn't love or know him. However, the movie ended with her sitting at their special rooftop hangout spot, holding the necklace he gifted her.
This implies she still has some romantic feelings for Peter buried inside herself. It is also possible that Jean's psychic blast awakened something in her mind. MJ could regain all of her dormant memories of Peter by the time of Spider-Man 5, just like Ned. Since MJ didn't seem to have that good of a relationship with her current boyfriend, her latest adventure with Peter could drive her to break up with the latter.
5. The Fantastic Four help Peter
Spider-Man’s MCU movies have seen him repeatedly cross paths with other iconic heroes, including Iron Man, Doctor Strange, the Hulk, and Black Widow. In the likely event that Spider-Man 5 occurs after Avengers: Secret Wars, Peter could already become friends with the Fantastic Four introduced in First Steps.
Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four have had one of the longest, closest friendships in Marvel Comics, so a team-up in the MCU is long overdue. Also, if Peter does have the Venom symbiote in his next film, the Fantastic Four could help him understand its alien nature, just like they did in the comics.
6. Peter teams up with the X-Men
Since the X-Men will be a big part of the MCU, it wouldn't be a surprise if they appear in Spider-Man 5 in some capacity. Peter already crossed paths with Jean Grey in Brand New Day, who seems set to join the team in the near future. At this point, the MCU has set up a strong connection between him and the X-Men.
The next Spider-Man film could finally show the hero team up with her and the rest of the X-Men against the movie's villain, whoever that may be. Even after the events of Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, Peter fighting alongside Earth's Mightiest Mutants in the MCU could make Spider-Man 5 a highly anticipated blockbuster event.
