Marvel Comics’ X-Men run From the Ashes keeps rolling, both with new comic books along with continuing the current runs. No matter what you like, there’s an X-Title for you. X-Factor balances comedy and drama, X-Force brings in a new kind of undercover mutant team, and Wolverine: Revenge is a violent take from an alternate Earth.

This article will highlight the best seven X-titles of the month and end with comic book news that will excite any X-Men fan. Let’s start with the best X-title of the month. A decision that wasn’t easy to make.

NYX No. 4 (Best of the Month)

  • Writers: Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing
  • Artist: Enid Balam

NYX remains the deepest series of the year. The writing team of Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing are giving the world of mutants that are rarely seen. The part where lives are changed and not always for the better. In this case, there’s David Alleyne (a.k.a. Prodigy) who began his post-Krakoan life as a professor content on leaving the world-saving for other people. When Kamala Khan is in trouble, David decides to intervene.

""It's what we make of this moment they've forced. How to take their nightmare... and reignite the dream." "

Prodigy

This issue was all about the idea of what it means to be a minority. In a world where people are attacked and discriminated against, staying silent isn’t an option for them. Now you have two warring sides. Both have had enough, but one side is more peaceful than the other. That begs the question of which is right when neither can be seen as wrong.

Mystique (Best beginning)

  • Writer: Declan Shalvey
  • Artist: Declan Shalvey

Declan Shalvey is giving Mystique fans the Raven they deserve. She’s using her shape-shifting abilities in incredible ways and Shalve art shows her changing creatively. The best part is seeing her outsmart brilliant people like Nick Fury Jr. and S.H.I.E.L.D. And then there’s an ending you won’t believe.

"Funny. Dunno why it is... they always shoot the other guy."

Mystique

Uncanny X-Men No. 4 (Best ongoing story)

  • Writer: Gail Simone
  • Artist: David Marquez

Gail Simone created a new villain that took out Wolverine and Rogue in their first outing, making it one of the most impressive debuts ever. On top of that, the new mutants (the Outliers) stood tall when it was time to defend their new home and teammates. Lastly, despite being broken and blind, Logan steps up and readies himself to join the fight.

""When I hated myself, he taught me how to stop.""

Rogue

X-Men No. 6 (Best character development)

  • Writer: Jed MacKay
  • Artist: Netho Diaz

Magik is finally getting the respect she deserves thanks to writers like Leah Williams (What if… Magik Became Sorcerer Supreme) and Ashley Allen (X-Men: Blood Hunt: Magik). Now, in Jed MacKay’s X-Men, it’s finally being acknowledged that she’s smarter than she lets on. Thanks to her and Idie (codename/mutant name Temper), a mutant holding a big secret is under their protection.

"If word got out, they'd make me take more responsibility around here."

Magik

Wolverine No. 2 (Best understanding of a character)

  • Writer: Saladin Ahmed
  • Artist: Martin Coccolo

Saladin Ahmed continues his run of Wolverine in the wilderness by showing the caring side of Logan. It was highlighted in issue No. 1, but this was different. Wolverine had to put his rage and anger at a former villain aside to understand that they weren’t in control of themselves.

If this is the kind of stories we’re getting from Saladin Ahmed and Martin Coccolo, we’re in for a treat. Wolverine is this writer’s favorite character because there are layers to his personality. Seeing it done this brilliantly brings a smile to his face.

"I can see the struggle in its eyes. I recognize it because I lived it."

Wolverine

Exceptional X-Men No. 2 (Best new characters)

  • Writer: Eve Ewing
  • Artist: Carmen Carnero

Kitty Pryde continues to help the new mutants she’s met even though she keeps saying she’s retired. She even went as far as introducing them to mutants their own age. But Kitty won’t be able to stay away after Emma Frost injects herself into things.

"I'll see to it that these young people get exactly what they need."

Emma Frost

Ultimate Wolverine is coming!

  • Writer: Chris Condon
  • Artist: Alessandro Cappuccio

Wolverine is one of the most popular mutants and hasn’t been seen during the resurgence of the Ultimate Universe and with good reason. Since he's among the heroes who can stop the Maker, he ensures that Logan is incapable of being a hero by putting him in the hands of his council members. So, instead of Weapon X, Logan becomes the Ultimate Universe's Winter Soldier thanks to Magik, Colossus, and Omega Red.

Ultimate Wolverine is scheduled to be on sale on January 15, 2025.

Cosmic Jean Grey

  • Writer: Stephanie Phillips
  • Artist: Alessandro Miracolo

During the New York Comic-Con, writer Stephanie Phillips announced that Jean Grey’s Phoenix is getting an upgrade. As the Phoenix writer said, she’s becoming a “Cosmic Queen”. We’ve already seen Jean plug black holes and defeat the Black Order single-handedly. If she’s becoming more powerful, every villain in the universe is in trouble.
