Each of the stories in DC Comics' Absolute Universe is different. Wonder Woman focuses on Greek Mythology, Batman is all about overcoming the impossible odds, and Martian Manhunter shows the darkness within society. Absolute Green Lantern has been the most interesting of them because it uses the idea of the color spectrum to talk philosophically. Admittedly, some of it goes over my head, and I have to read certain pages a couple of times to get it. But it’s absolutely worth it (pun intended).

During issue No.6 of Absolute Green Lantern, readers learn that John Stewart and Guy Gardner weren’t killed by Abin Sur. They were chosen and brought to a higher plane of thinking. That’s represented with the color spectrum, in which there are four levels. The first is Quard (Black), then it’s Rao (Red), Sur (Green), and Aur (Yellow). Hal Jordan is Quard, Guy Gardner is Rao, Sojourner “Jo” Mullein is Sur, and John Stewart is Aur. At the end of the issue, John explains that the most powerful of the Quard is coming, and its name is Mogo (yes, the planet).

In issue No. 7 of Absolute Green Lantern, readers learn that Mogo is the authority of the universe and considers the followers of Oa a cult, and he also thinks that they must be eliminated. Besides having massive power, Mogo has a weapon to uphold its authority. In DC Comics' prime universe, it's someone: The guy who trained the best Green Lanterns, Kilowog. Here, he's the gun wielded by Mogo.

Just like in the main continuity, Kilowog is powerful. He shows this by defeating three Sur warriors on his own with little effort. One of them managed to blast his head off. Unfortunately for them, the power of the Black Hand brought him back to life. Soon after that, Kilowog is confronted by another familiar face, Tomar-Re. Shocking to no one who's been reading the Absolute Universe titles, he's more ruthless than his main continuity counterpart.

Tomar-Re is powered by Rao (Red), and that level is only supposed to be able to use their abilities defensively. But Tomar-Re didn’t acquire the gift through the teachings of Oa. He stole them. That means he wasn’t beholden to the rules. Tomar-Re kills Kilowog and sends him back to the Black Star planet’s leader, none other than Sinestro! And, from the looks of it, Sinestro could be the voice that speaks for Mogo. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow to find out what happens next.
