Aquaman 2: Emilia Clarke replaces Amber Heard as Mera in jaw-dropping video
Emilia Clarke becomes Mera in this incredible Aquaman concept fan video.
Emilia Clarke is a household name and has been one since she brought the revered Daenerys Targaryen to life in HBO’s Game of Thrones between 2011 and 2019. She also knows her way around a major movie franchise or two, having appeared in Terminator Genisys and Star Wars: A Solo Story. She will continue to make her presence felt in major movie franchises when she debuts in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the near future.
However, is there any chance she could appear in the DC Extended Universe? Her name has been on the minds of fans for a long time but, recently, there has been a lot of fan discussion theorising if she could appear in Aquaman 2 alongside her Game of Thrones co-star Jason Momoa.
A recent video has given us all the chance to see what that could look like as it reimagines Aquaman with Emilia Clarke in the role of Mera through the use of DeepFake technology, placing Clarke’s likeness over Amber Heard – who plays the DCEU role.

YouTube user Stryder HD is no stranger to making these convincing videos, having created some incredible edits over the past few years, some of which feature Millie Bobby Brown in the role of Star Wars’ Princess Leia and Emily Blunt in the role of the Fantastic Four’s Sue Storm.
Here, Emilia Clarke’s likeness is super-imposed over the top of footage featuring Amber Heard from 2018’s Aquaman. The result is so seamless that it actually looks like the DCEU movie was a GoT reunion for Dany and Khal Drogo.
Is Emilia Clarke in Aquaman 2?
Emilia Clarke will not be appearing in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Yes, she may look incredibly convincing as Queen Mera of Atlantis but that role will reportedly once again be played by Amber Heard in the upcoming DCEU sequel.
Rumors about Heard’s role in the project have made their way around the internet in recent months. However, the speculation increased when a report from Just Jared claimed Heard would not reprise the role and that it would have to be recast. Those rumors have since been negated by a statement from Heard’s representatives, who slammed them as being “inaccurate”.
While former president of DC Films, Walter Hamada, did reveal that there were previous discussions of recasting before the sequel shot due to “chemistry concerns” that ultimately didn’t happen.
When does Aquaman 2 come out?
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will arrive in movie theaters on December 25, 2023. It was initially set to release in theaters on March 17, 2023. However, due to the restructuring going on at Warner Bros. Discovery, it was one of the many DC projects that got delayed.
What’s more is that the future of Aquaman, Mera, and the rest of the characters is uncertain because, after the movie comes out, the DCEU will have evolved into the new DC Universe. Overseen by James Gunn and Peter Safran, the new regime will look to build the DCU as one single cohesive shared universe, leaving behind much of what came before in the DCEU (while holding onto some of it).
It’s unclear how – or if – Aquaman will fit into that, as he isn’t expected to appear in any of the new upcoming DC titles after Aquaman 2.
