It's been a while since Earth's Mightiest Heroes assembled on the big screen. Over seven years ago, the Avengers jumped into action to defeat Thanos and restore half of the life in the universe. Since then, new groups of heroes have risen to the occasion and kept the Marvel Cinematic Universe safe from multiversal dangers.

For starters, three iterations of Spider-Man joined forces to save many supervillains and stop an incursion in the process. Moreover, the Marvels have watched over the cosmos, while the New Avengers have kept New York safe. Finally, the Fantastic Four have become the sole heroes of a completely different reality.

While the multiverse has managed to stay afloat without the intervention of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, that will no longer be the case. Doctor Doom is coming, and Earth will need all of its protectors to stop him. Fortunately, the Avengers will step out of the shadows for another fast-paced adventure filled with high stakes. Moreover, audiences worldwide are eager to see the return of these characters, as revealed by early box-office projections for Avengers: Doomsday.

Avengers: Doomsday has already generated $100 million in pre-sales months before its release

As revealed by Global Box Office, Avengers: Doomsday has already surpassed the $100 million mark at the global box office during pre-sales alone. Furthermore, Marvel's upcoming crossover became the fastest film to surpass $1 million in pre-sales in both the UK and Brazil. This major milestone was achieved over two months ahead of the movie's official release on December 18.

Avengers: Doomsday is currently outpacing Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which itself was a major success for the MCU. The wall-crawler's latest adventure dethroned Avengers: Endgame as the highest-grossing domestic opening weekend ever, nearly reaching $1 billion in its first weekend. Despite that, Avengers: Doomsday sold 65% more tickets in its first four days of pre-sales than Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Given that Avengers: Doomsday is one of the biggest superhero projects ever, it needed an equally large investment to bring it to life. According to industry insider John Campea, the crossover had a $400 million budget, with an additional $300 million dedicated to marketing and promotional expenses. But while a $700 million break-even point would prove to be too much for most projects, it seems Earth's Mightiest Heroes will be able to surpass it with ease.

Early projections for Avengers: Doomsday suggest the film will gross $1 billion during its global opening weekend, with some outlets reporting that figure could go as high as $1.5 billion. Of course, those estimates are likely to change as we get closer to release. Furthermore, a key factor to take into consideration when discussing the movie's box office is its reviews.

If early previews for Avengers: Doomsday are stellar, it is likely to have better box-office holds in the long run. Otherwise, its first-to-second weekend drop could be significant. But even in the worst-case scenario, the film should become profitable for Marvel during its first three days in theaters.

The first cinematic crossover between the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men was bound to be a box office juggernaut. The only question remaining is whether it will be able to surpass its predecessor, Avengers: Endgame, and become the highest-grossing film in cinematic history. Some even suggest the upcoming MCU crossover could reach $3 billion, which isn't impossible if Spider-Man alone is $500 million shy of that mark.

The success of Avengers: Doomsday only makes the release of Avengers: Secret Wars all the more promising. After all, the last chapter in Marvel's Multiversal Saga is bound to be bigger in scope and feature even more characters. For the time being, it seems the MCU is back in its golden days, and we can't wait to see how it all pans out.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec. 18, 2026.
