There was a time when superhero movies shied away from their source material in many aspects, especially in the costume department. That's why fans had to wait 24 years to see Logan wear his iconic yellow-and-blue suit on the big screen.

Fortunately, the days of watching simplistic and "realistic" character designs are over. Say what you will about the Marvel Cinematic Universe and how it has handled the Multiverse Saga, there's no denying that both heroes and villains have sported amazing comic-book-accurate suits, and that shows no signs of slowing down.

Avengers: Doomsday will be the most stacked MCU project made to date. Earth's Mightiest Heroes, the Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, and X-Men will finally share the screen, and the latter will undergo a much-needed redesign. Thanks to the movie's teaser trailers, fans spotted Cyclops wearing a costume that feels ripped straight out of comic book pages. Fortunately, he isn't the only one who will get an improved look.

Avengers: Doomsday promotional material reveals Doctor Doom and Magneto's designs

The MCU's biggest crossover to date is getting closer and closer, which means Marvel is slowly dropping more and more promotional material showcasing what's to come. This time, fans were able to get a glimpse at a comic book cover showing many of the movie's characters in their respective costumes. However, two fan-favorite villains clearly steal the spotlight: Doctor Doom and Magneto.

Doom's design is simply flawless. His mask is more detailed than the one we briefly saw in the post-credits scenes of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which was probably a temporary prop. We also see pieces of metal armor scattered throughout his costume, such as on the shoulder pads and the cloak clasps. Speaking of which, he is wearing a proper cloak this time around (unlike Josh Trank's version). Simply put: this is Doctor Doom in all of his glory.

Interestingly enough, the villain's design on the comic book cover is identical to the one showcased at the Disney 2026 Merchandise Expo in China. A clear giveaway is the engraving on the cloak clasps, given that the two illustrations feature a star-like logo on one clasp and a hammer on the other (which could be trophies of sorts, indicating that Doom has already killed a multiversal variant of Captain Marvel and Thor). So, at this point, it is all but confirmed: the ruler of Latveria's look is faithful to the source material.

Magneto also underwent a redesign that gets him closer to his comic book counterpart. The main visible change is the character's helmet—it features a distinctive red-and-purple color palette and is larger than the previous helmet Ian McKellen wore on the big screen. Besides, the villain's suit is red this time around, as opposed to black like it used to be.

Let's switch things up a bit and talk about the good guys. Thor seems to have gone back to his Infinity War look, with short hair and black-and-gold armor. Additionally, the Fantastic Four seem to be sporting new jackets not seen in their solo movie. Gambit looks like a direct adaptation of the X-Men '97 iteration of the character, and Mystique has her iconic white suit. As for the rest of the heroes, such as Ant-Man, their designs look mostly unchanged.

The comic book cover also features many characters that will be part of a big crossover for the first time in cinematic history. Gambit, Beast, Mystique, Shang-Chi, Sentry, the Fantastic Four, Namor, and Nightcrawler are all front and center in the illustration, and it will be interesting to see them interact with each other when Avengers: Doomsday finally releases.

Even though the upcoming crossover will feature many different characters, it's nice to know Marvel is taking the time to adapt each and every one of them in the best way possible on the big screen. Hopefully, their costumes will look even better in action, and other unannounced characters will also look as good.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec. 18, 2026.
