For a long time, it was widely believed that the Marvel Cinematic Universe lacked any big stakes or a real sense of urgency. For years, we watched beloved heroes save the day over and over again while getting out of the most dire situations practically unscathed. However, everything changed when we witnessed the conclusion of the Infinity Saga courtesy of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.
Fans had to bid farewell to iconic characters such as Iron Man and Black Widow, along with the original versions of Vision, Loki, and Gamora. Unfortunately, it seems such a list is about to get even longer over the following years. The end of the Multiverse Saga is upon us, and Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars are getting closer and closer. Given that the MCU is expected to undergo a soft reboot after the upcoming crossovers, it wouldn't be surprising to learn that the journeys of many heroes are coming to an end.
Every MCU character is in danger, especially those who have been in the franchise the longest. Now, a new report claims that the time for one of those original Marvel legends has unfortunately run out.

Avengers: Doomsday will reportedly mark Steve Rogers' last appearance in the MCU
Marvel has already confirmed that its First Avenger is bound to make a comeback, but little did we know it might be the last time we'll get to see him on the big screen. According to scooper Majestic Ucm, Avengers: Doomsday will feature the final appearance of Chris Evans' Steve Rogers, one of the few remaining heroes who's been around since the MCU's Phase 1. That begs the question: is he about to pay the ultimate price?
Steve's role in Avengers: Doomsday has been a topic of hot debate among fans. Why would the former soldier step out of retirement and jump into action once again, especially now that he has a child? Well, it has been heavily rumored that his decision to go back in time to live a happy life with Peggy Carter caused a branched timeline that grew unsupervised. After all, He Who Remains isn't around anymore to prune those realities that shouldn't have come into existence in the first place.
It has been reported that Steve's new timeline grew to the point it might've tangled with another branched timeline from a different universe, creating an incursion that killed Doctor Doom's family in the process. The ruler of Latveria is now coming for vengeance and to ensure nothing similar ever happens again. With that in mind, maybe there's a chance that the villain will get his revenge, establishing him as a true force to be reckoned with. That would explain why we won't see Steve around in Avengers: Secret Wars anymore.
Another possibility is that Steve decides to sacrifice himself so that his family isn't in Doom's crosshairs anymore. The iconic hero could very well follow in Tony Stark's footsteps and die for a greater good. Maybe he could even perish on the battlefield, perhaps while saving the life of someone like Bucky Barnes or Sam Wilson.
Of course, it's always important to take rumors with a grain of salt, especially because other insiders have reported that Chris Evans' time as Captain America won't be over once the credits roll on Avengers: Doomsday. However, one thing is for certain: the First Avenger is unlikely to stay for too long in the MCU, so even if the next crossover isn't his last, chances are Secret Wars will prove to be so.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec. 18, 2026.
