The Marvel Cinematic Universe is gearing up to conclude the Multiverse Saga in the biggest way possible. After a long hiatus, Earth's Mightiest Heroes will assemble once more on the big screen to try to save the multiverse as a whole, and they won't be alone. At this point, it is well known that past superhero legends—such as the X-Men and Steve Rogers—are bound to make a comeback for one more adventure. However, Marvel has more surprises in store waiting to be unveiled when the movie releases.
It has been reported that Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man will have a major role in Avengers: Doomsday. Furthermore, the Scarlet Witch's long-awaited return is rumored to take place in Avengers: Secret Wars. But if that wasn't enough, yet another iconic character known for their participation in the Infinity Saga could be back, and their return could be absolutely heartbreaking.

Pepper Potts will reportedly return in Avengers: Doomsday
Renowned insider Daniel Richtman has revealed that Pepper Potts will have a small role in Avengers: Doomsday. Considering the character's participation will be limited, it seems unlikely we'll see her suit up in an Iron Man armor and jump into action. After all, the last time she did so, it was because Tony Stark still had an active role in the MCU's story (which isn't the case anymore). Besides, it seems unlikely Marvel would want the character's participation to feel derivative of her role in Avengers: Endgame. So that means Pepper might be back for another heartbreaking reason.
Fans around the world have all been wondering the same thing: Why will Doctor Doom look identical to Tony Stark? Many have theorized that perhaps the ruler of Latveria is an Iron Man variant who never learned how to be selfless. Others have suggested this is all just a big ruse, and the villain is simply using magic to look like someone trustworthy. But whatever the case, there's no denying that it will be traumatizing for other MCU characters to meet someone who shares the same face as a former friend.
Heroes who knew Tony might be more inclined to agree with Doom's plan to create Battleworld. After all, leaked Avengers: Doomsday concept art unveiled Doctor Strange and potentially Yelena Belova standing next to Doom's throne, implying they are on their side. However, those who were really close to Tony, such as Pepper Potts, will likely see through the deception and realize that something is terribly wrong with the man claiming to be the world's next protector.
Perhaps Pepper's role will be to convince a small group of heroes that Doom can't be trusted, despite his claims of wanting to save the multiverse and looking like a former friend, father, and husband. On the other hand, her return could also signal that audiences will also see Tony and Pepper's daughter, Morgan Stark, and learn what she has been up to since the events of Avengers: Endgame.
The upcoming Avengers movies will mark the very last time we see some beloved characters that defined not only the MCU's Infinity Saga, but the superhero genre as a whole. Pepper has been around since Iron Man (2008), the movie responsible for kick-starting this interconnected universe of projects. This might be the last time we see her character on the big screen, so fingers crossed she goes out with a bang.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec. 18, 2026.
