Now that the friendly neighborhood hero swung onto the big screen courtesy of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, only two Marvel Cinematic Universe films are set to be released before 2028: Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. These crossovers will not only mark the first time Earth's Mightiest Heroes assemble on the big screen in seven years, but they will also serve as the culmination of the ongoing Multiverse Saga. That means we're about to witness the payoff to storylines that have slowly been built up over the years.
The Multiverse Saga has not been without its complications. Some plot points were dropped halfway through or completely replaced, with Kang's story being the most notorious. Furthermore, a handful of characters introduced over the last few years, such as Moon Knight, Werewolf by Night, and Kate Bishop, were never seen after their debut. That said, there's one specific storyline that has been in the making since the inception of this Marvel era, and a report reveals we'll watch its conclusion right until the very end.
The Maximoff family will reportedly reunite in Avengers: Secret Wars
According to insider Alex Perez (via The Cosmic Circus), the Maximoff family will reunite during the events of Avengers: Secret Wars. Furthermore, this storyline will be heavily inspired by the Avengers: The Children's Crusade comic book series, in which the Young Avengers embark on a quest to find the Scarlet Witch after her sudden disappearance. Much to the heroes' surprise, Wanda was hiding in Latveria with no recollection of her previous life and was on the brink of marrying Doctor Doom.
The source also stated that WandaVision, Agatha All Along, and VisionQuest are must-watch projects before going into Avengers: Secret Wars, since all of them dive into the intricacies of magic, runes, and Wanda's powers. Furthermore, it is implied that Agatha will appear in the upcoming Avengers movies as well.
A key thing to take into consideration is that the events of Avengers: The Children's Crusade were set in motion because Wanda was desperate to be with Billy and Tommy after their vanishing, so she asked Doctor Doom for help, and from that point onwards everything spiraled out of control. While the ruler of Latveria did aid Wanda in becoming more powerful to will her kids into existence, he eventually stole her powers and nearly reigned supreme over reality as a whole.
Avengers: The Children's Crusade could influence the events of the upcoming Avengers movies in two major ways: First and foremost, Vision, Tommy, Billy, Agatha (and perhaps the rest of the Young Avengers) could all search for Wanda, only to discover she's now one of Doom's followers. Secondly, it seems the villain could be looking to steal her powers to create Battleworld—an amalgamation of multiple parallel universes that could effectively stop incursions from happening all across the multiverse.
It wouldn't be far-fetched to assume this storyline will be broken into two parts, with the Young Avengers coming together in Avengers: Doomsday, and them finally finding and reuniting with Wanda in Avengers: Secret Wars. On the bright side, it does seem that the Maximoff family will get a happy ending, as unveiled by a different report. Despite the many MCU tragedies that could unfold in the upcoming years, the Scarlet Witch will possibly get what she has been looking for since the very beginning: a happy life with Vision, Billy, and Tommy.
VisionQuest will play an instrumental part in setting up the events to come, especially considering that it will feature appearances by Vision, Tommy Maximoff, and potentially even Billy Maximoff. That means the whole WandaVision storyline will continue this October, and we can't wait to see how it all pans out.
Avengers: Secret Wars will be released on Dec. 17, 2027.
