Warning: This post contains potential spoilers for Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.
We all know the big Marvel Cinematic Universe crossovers love to introduce a little friction between the good guys. Iron Man and Thor battled it out before they even got the chance to introduce themselves in The Avengers (2012). Furthermore, Iron Man and Hulk nearly destroyed Johannesburg thanks to their confrontation in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Additionally, Iron Man also fought Captain America in the Civil War crossover and came face-to-face with the Guardians of the Galaxy in Infinity War. But even with the Armored Avenger out of the picture (who was the common denominator in all these fights), the action is nowhere near over.
Avengers: Doomsday will mark the X-Men's proper introduction to the MCU, so it's only natural that their welcome will consist of them fighting Earth's Mightiest Heroes, as revealed by the movie's trailers. Furthermore, it's been widely reported that Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man will need to face Hugh Jackman's Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool in the opening of the movie.
The rumor mill also indicates that the Thing and the Hulk will brawl in the upcoming MCU crossover. However, all of these battles may pale in comparison to a confrontation that will potentially come our way in 2027.
The Hulk and Wolverine will reportedly fight in Avengers: Secret Wars
Industry insider James Mack revealed that the Hulk and Wolverine will fight each other on the big screen in "2027." Given that the only Marvel Cinematic Universe movie scheduled to be released next year is Avengers: Secret Wars, it's safe to say the long-awaited confrontation will take place in the final chapter of the Multiverse Saga.
Throughout the years, comic books have featured plenty of hero-versus-hero matchups, but few are as iconic as the Hulk and Wolverine. After all, they are two very violent characters who stop at nothing to defeat their opponent. Readers even witnessed the Green Goliath rip Logan in half in what's perhaps one of the most shocking moments in the Ultimate Universe (which is saying something considering there were plenty of shocking choices in that comic series).
The MCU has even teased this long-awaited confrontation on the big screen during the events of Deadpool & Wolverine. Wade Wilson was traveling across the multiverse when he came across a version of Logan who was wearing the classic brown suit and about to fight the Hulk. Marvel knows this fight is one for the ages, so it doesn't come as a surprise that the studio wants to adapt it in live-action.
Interestingly, Marvel has already laid the groundwork for the Green Goliath to be at odds with multiple Marvel heroes. During the events of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Jean Grey destroyed Bruce Banner's inhibitor device, which made the doctor lose control of his darker half. After the Hulk ran rampant in the headquarters of the Department of Damage Control, Bruce was held captive and incarcerated inside a containment unit at a military complex, as revealed by one of the post-credits scenes in Avengers Endgame: Encore.
Bruce was working hard on creating a Gamma serum that could help him stay in his human form to avoid any more relapses. Unfortunately, tragedy struck when Victor von Doom suddenly appeared in the hero's cell and transported him somewhere else. Now, it's all but a given that the Hulk will follow Doom's orders, which could potentially put him at odds with the likes of the Thing and Wolverine.
Marvel has confirmed that Doom will have a coven of Latverian Witches by his side in Avengers: Doomsday, with multiple insiders suggesting that all of the members of this mysterious group will be well-known Marvel heroes who have turned to the dark side.
Doctor Strange and Wanda Maximoff are widely suspected to be among Doom's followers, and now all signs seem to indicate that the Hulk will be yet another one of the villain's pawns. With that in mind, Earth's Mightiest Heroes will need all the help they can get if they want a chance at saving the multiverse. On the bright side, this dire situation will give us plenty of exciting hero-versus-hero battles, and we can't wait to see how it all pans out.
Avengers: Secret Wars will be released on Dec. 17, 2027.
