Avengers: Secret Wars is continually expanding its impressive roster of superheroes, with two iconic Sony characters reportedly joining. Avengers: Secret Wars will continue the story started in Avengers: Doomsday and offer an epic conclusion to the MCU's Multiverse Saga. This means fans can expect to see a number of characters from across the Marvel movies.
While several Fox Marvel characters are confirmed to be joining the MCU, MyTimeToShineHello also reveals that Sony's two versions of Spider-Man, played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, will join Avengers: Secret Wars. In fact, it is reported that the two actors will have major roles in the MCU team-up movie, alongside Tom Holland, who will be reprising his role as the MCU's Spider-Man.
This is not the first time Maguire and Garfield have reprised their roles in the MCU, as both actors appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home with their wall-crawlers being drawn into Earth-616 by Doctor Strange's spell. Maguire starred in all three of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movies, from 2002 to 2007, while Garfield had two solo movies at Sony, with 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man and 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Can Maguire and Garfield's return top Spider-Man: No Way Home?
The prospect of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield both returning to the MCU in an even bigger project is certainly exciting. However, some of the magic of this announcement is taken away by the fact that Spider-Man: No Way Home already pulled off this multiverse storyline so successfully years before, and gave them both great storylines for their characters.
While Spider-Man: No Way Home was certainly still Tom Holland's movie, with some monumental moments for his Spider-Man, Maguire and Garfield played surprisingly significant roles. Maguire's Spider-Man got to serve as a mentor who taught Holland's hero that Spider-Man is supposed to save lives, not punish his enemies.
Meanwhile, Garfield got to close out an important storyline for his character. After losing Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Garfield's Spider-Man admits to taking a dark path, which he tries to warn Holland away from. His moment of saving MJ served as some form of redemption.
Aside from this, the interactions between the three versions of Spider-Man were hugely entertaining, funny, and even heartfelt. It was a celebration of the character, no matter which version you grew up with. Even if Maguire and Garfield play major roles in Avengers: Secret Wars, it will be difficult for the massive movie replicate the success of their previous return.
Undoubtedly, seeing these characters back on screen together will be a highlight in Avengers: Secret Wars. However, it also points to a potential issue with the Multiverse Saga in that these kinds of casting coups are no longer as impressive as they were a few years ago and have even become expected by fans.
