Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley’s Invincible Universe: Battle Beast story started after Battle Beast easily defeated Invincible and the Guardians of the Globe. As Battle Beast himself said, there was no competition for him, so he left to find some. As the series continued, it was shown that nobody could give him what he wanted: a battle that ends in his death. In issue No. 6, we see that not even someone who ruled a planet for thousands of years could stop him. So, rather than be killed, she tossed him away to heal and prepare for his return.

At the end of the issue, Kregg (a member of the Viltrumite army) reports to his mysterious leader that there’s someone on a planet who is extremely powerful. The person speaking is revealed to be the strongest villain in the Invincible Universe, named Grand Regent Thragg. He tells Kregg to send the one person he knows will succeed in overtaking the planet. That person is none other than Conquest.

In both the Invincible comic book and Prime Video TV show adaptation, Battle Beast is seen in a Viltrumite prison, but we don’t know what happened to put him there. If we’re going by context clues at the end of issue No. 6, not only is a fight between Battle Beast and Conquest coming, but we’re also going to see how he was defeated, why he was kept alive, and if Battle Beast allowed this to happen.

The series so far

Of course, the action in this comic series has been fantastic. It’s bloody, creative, and fun to look at. However, the part that keeps me continuously buying this series is the depth of Battle Beast. It wasn’t part of his personality in Invincible. All we knew was that he wanted death. Learning the reason behind his brutality helped readers truly understand him. He’s in constant pain that can only be quenched with death. Because of that hurt, he lashes out, hoping that someone will put him out of his misery.

Another important part of this story is a being named Prince Salaka. He's crucial to the story because he's helping Battle Beast become a more well-rounded character. There's even a point where it looks like they're friends. At the very least, Battle Beast is opening up to him. Sadly, if you've read the Invincible comic book, you'll notice that he isn't around. That likely means he was killed. Whoever is responsible (likely Conquest) will regret it. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow to find out how that tale ends.
