It's no secret that Marvel superheroes constantly put their lives on the line to protect others and save the day. Most of the time, they manage to make it out alive even if they experience a close call along the way. However, there are a few occasions when not even their superpowers are able to keep them safe. We've seen countless of our favorite characters bit the dust throughout the years before, and even they it never gets any easier. Unfortunately, a fan-favorite recently made it into that list as well.
The Devil is back, but this time hell is more terrifying than ever. The Man Without Fear is the star of a new comic book series titled Daredevil: Cold Day in Hell (2025). In it, readers venture into the life of a grown Matt Murdock who lost his superpowers due to the passage of time. Now, he dedicates his life to the greater good by running a soup kitchen for the homeless. He lived a few "normal" years in a ruined New York City until one day, tragedy struck and he was forced to suit up once more. Unfortunately, Daredevil's first mission in a while proved to be another hero's last in a tragic moment that reminds us no one is truly safe in the Marvel universe.

Captain America died in Daredevil: Cold Day In Hell
Daredevil: Cold Day In Hell takes place in a dystopian, post-superhero world that seems to have no salvation. A war left Earth without its greatest protectors, and now everyone lives scared of the "deebees" (but just who or what are they? Well, it remains a mystery, for the time being). Matt tried to convince himself that this was all just "part of God's plan" as he kept going with his life. However, he would soon realize that a larger scheme was indeed in store for him.
A gas bomb violently detonated at a train station near Matt's soup kitchen. But while everyone ran away from the chemicals, the Man Without Fear decided to go into them to help anyone he could. Suddenly, Matt started hearing everything at once. His dormant powers reawakened due to the gas, and he could "see" the people screaming and begging for help regardless of how far away they were from him. Daredevil then picked up a single heartbeat that seemed familiar: Captain America's.
Matt made his way through the devastated train station only to find Steve Rogers single-handedly holding the entire underground structure over his shoulders, with an unconscious woman lying next to him. Cap asked Daredevil to get the civilian to safety, because "she's the whole reason [the explosion] happened". Matt agreed to help and, as he parkoured his way out of trouble while also carrying someone else, he kept hearing Captain America's words. Steve revealed that a military shipment was stolen, and it included many chemicals from something called the "New Warrior Project". A sample from these stolen substances also happened to be used to detonate the train bombs.
Daredevil eventually leads the woman to safety and immediately heads back to save the hero left behind. Matt hears Steve's every heartbeat, but even when he does his best to reach him, the sound eventually stops. Suddenly, there's nothing but silence. Captain America died, buried under all the debris to give The Man Without Fear a chance of finally stopping all the madness. Eventually, it was revealed that Bullseye was responsible for the attacks and that he had even bigger plans in store.
During the last panels of Daredevil: Cold Day In Hell (2025) No. 1 comic book readers witness as Matt goes back to his apartment and opens up an old box containing his iconic red suit. As simple as that, Daredevil is born again, and he jumps right back into action. This tale might be one of the best the Man Without Fear has starred in recent years, and perhaps one of the best Marvel comic book series published as of late. Fortunately, issue No. 2 is already out, and it takes things to a whole new level. But how will this tale unfold? Well, there's only one way to find out.
Daredevil: Cold Day in Hell (2025) No. 3, the epic conclusion of the saga, will be published on July 09, 2025.
