Michael B. Jordan is the latest Marvel star rumored to be joining the cast of the new Avengers movie, according to Marvel Insider Alex Perez.
During a question and answer session on The Cosmic Circus, Perez was asked by a fan about Shuri returning for the upcoming Avengers movies. Perez mentioned that Shuri will likely return but also mentioned there are rumors that Jordan would star, as well.
Here's what Perez said in the full response:
" But to add some fuel to the fire, I don’t think she’ll be the only Black Panther showing up. There’s a rumor I heard through the grapevine which I thought would be interesting to mention here: Michael B. Jordan may be returning for one of the upcoming Avengers films."
It's still not clear yet who Jordan could be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as or playing in the new Avengers movie, of course. There are so many ways Marvel could go with his potential casting. Obviously, Jordan has played multiple characters in Marvel stories in the past, including Erik Killmonger in Black Panther, Black Panther in What If...?, and Johnny Storm/Human Torch in the 2015 disaster, Fantastic Four.
With the multiverse, I'd assume that Jordan returning as any of those three characters is possible, even if Killmonger was killed in Black Panther. Honestly, that's probably the character I'd love to see Jordan return as the most of all, but there are obviously some issues with that happening.
Killmonger was such a great villain and character. In many ways, he was misunderstood, but we didn't get to see his full potential. There are many ways that Killmonger could be brought back into the fold. Maybe T'Challa saved his life with the Wakandan technology? They could definitely make that happen!
Jordan could also return to the MCU as a new character. We've seen multiple actors do that in the MCU. The latest is, of course, Robert Downey Jr., who is returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom after many years of playing Tony Stark/Iron Man.
There are many new characters expected to be introduced in the MCU over the next several years, but as usual, there are only whisperings right now. It's going to be a while until
It sounds like, based on Perez's response, that Jordan could play Black Panther in his return to the MCU. Perez mentioned that Shuri won't be the "only Black Panther showing up." I might be reading too much into that line, but it would seem to suggest that Jordan would not be playing a new character. Instead, he would be playing Black Panther.
I'm not opposed to that happening, of course, as long as there is some homage or respect paid to Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa and Black Panther.
If Marvel Insiders like Perez are speaking about these rumors, there are probably some encouraging signs that this casting could actually happen. It will be very interesting to see how it all shakes out!

Even if they're made well ahead of time, sometimes the news doesn't break until right before the release. It's too hard to keep them secret for too long, though, as we saw with the most recent Marvel movie, Deadpool & Wolverine.
