Turns out Marvel's next movie is going to be much shorter than expected

Following reports suggesting Captain America: Brave New World would be one of the longest Marvel movies, it’s now being reported the movie will actually be one of the studio’s shorter movies. 

Initially, the runtime of Captain America: Brave New World was reported to be 2 hours and 40 minutes which would have made it one of Marvel’s longest movies and the longest Captain America movie by a long shot. However, it seems the movie is actually about a half-hour shorter than that. 

Marvel insider Daniel RPK has reported that the runtime of Anthony Mackie’s first Captain America movie is actually set to come in at 2 hours and 4 minutes, putting the movie around two hours. This runtime is honestly much more in line with what we expected of the film as it would have been a bit interesting to see a nearly three-hour Captain America movie, especially when you consider a 2 hour and 40-minute runtime would have made the film Marvel’s third-longest movie ever. 

The fourth Captain America movie has a lot to unpack between finally acknowledging the existence of the Celestial being left behind in the events of Eternals and Thaddeus Ross’s transformation into the Red Hulk, to the arrival of a new Falcon and official passing of the touch with Sam Wilson’s Captain America taking over. However, we can’t imagine a need to stretch the film out to nearly three hours and imagine a runtime that long could even hurt the film and discourage some moviegoers from heading out to see the film in theaters. 

Instead, Captain America: Brave New World will be one of the shorter movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe catalog and fittingly will actually share a runtime with the first Captain America movie to ever hit theaters. 

The very first Chris Evans Captain America movie, Captain America: The First Avenger, also featured a runtime of 2 hours and 4 minutes. It’s unclear if Captain America: Brave New World’s runtime being the same as the runtime of the first Captain America movie was planned or is just a coincidence, but it definitely seems fitting. 

In the grand scheme of things, Captain America: Brave New World and Captain America: The First Avenger will hold the joint title of the shortest Captain America movies while Captain America: Civil War remains the longest with a runtime of 2 hours and 27 minutes. Meanwhile, Captain America: The Winter Solider falls right in the middle of the pack with a runtime of 2 hours and 16 minutes.
