Since the Clayface movie has been shooting for a while now, fans are noticing all sorts of interesting details from the film's set in Liverpool, England. One of the most noteworthy things to have been uncovered by eagle-eyed fans was a newspaper which calls for the people of Gotham City to unite behind the Joker, as shared by DC Nation on X.
The poster shows what appears to be politicians and a police officer attending a rally, accompanied by the following caption:
“Corruption is the ENEMY of the people. March against the GCPD. JOIN THE JOKER.”
Since the Joker has not yet officially appeared in the DC Universe, this is the first real confirmation we have that the Clown Prince of Crime even exists within the continuity. But now that we know that there is indeed a Joker in the DCU, it probably will not be long before the iconic villain makes his debut, even though it is unclear if he will actually appear in Clayface. And the way in which it rallies the people of Gotham City to stand with the Joker is certainly alarming, since the fact that the city’s inhabitants are willing to side with a maniac no doubt signifies a huge crime rate.
Clayface will take place primarily in Gotham City, and it stars Tom Rhys Harries as an actor who becomes a claylike, shapeshifting monster. Other confirmed cast members include Naomi Ackie, Eddie Marsan, and Max Minghella. Since Clayface is not a character the general public is familiar with, Warner Bros. wisely chose to keep the budget under $50 million, which will no doubt pay off when the film opens in wide release on September 11, 2026, making it the third DCU film after Superman and Supergirl. And while comparisons to The Substance are probably inevitable, Clayface will hopefully still prove to be unique enough to stand out on its own.
James Watkins, who is known for Eden Lake, The Woman in Black, Bastille Day, and Speak No Evil, is directing, while Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini co-wrote the script. James Gunn and Peter Safran are producing on behalf of DC Studios, and we can expect more cast members to be confirmed soon.
Despite being set in Gotham City and the reference to the Joker, there is no word on whether Batman will appear in Clayface, and we currently do not even know who will play Batman in the DCU. But these are questions which will no doubt be answered at a later date.
Clayface is released on September 11, 2026.
