It's hard to believe that it has now been three years since Supergirl came to an end. The Girl of Steel teamed up with her allies from the past and present (and even future) to take on the nefarious team of Lex Luthor and Nyxly in what was an epic two-part finale designed to close out not just the sixth season but the show's overarching story. It succeeded, bringing a close to the Arrowverse series in a heartfelt manner that had all of its fans feeling emotional.
The show's conclusion marked the beginning of the end of the DC TV shows on The CW, and it all led to this moment as the last of them, Supergirl spinoff Superman and Lois, just recently wrapped up. Though some Supergirl stars, particularly Tyler Hoechlin, Elizabeth "Bitsie" Tulloch, and Jenna Dewan, all reprised their roles, the Girl of Steel herself, Melissa Benoist, never got the chance to appear in it. There were initially rumors that it might happen, but once the series distanced itself from the rest of the Arrowverse, that was unlikely.
However, Supergirl fans will be thrilled to hear that Benoist will be reuniting on-screen with one of her co-stars in a brand new TV series.
Melissa Benoist and Chris Wood to lead new NBC series Duo
As revealed by Deadline, Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist and Chris Wood will reunite on new NBC series Duo. The project is written by Wood and has Rina Mimoun as showrunner, while also being produced by Benoist's Three Things Productions.
The show is described as a family drama that will reunite real-life couple Benoist and Wood on-screen. The latter is set to play a blue-collar worker who crosses paths with Benoist's charismatic performer, leading them to form a two-person band. They will become fast-rising stars, which will impact both of their own lives and the lives of their family members.
Benoist portrayed Kara Danvers, a.k.a. Supergirl, for all six seasons of the DC TV series. Wood joined in the second season as a series regular, playing Mon-El of Daxam. He remained on the show for its third season and departed upon its conclusion, returning for guest appearances in its fifth and sixth seasons. Prior to that, Benoist's best-known role was as Marley Rose on Fox's Glee, while Wood was already a veteran of The CW, perhaps best-known for his appearance as the villainous Kai Parker in The Vampire Diaries.
Supergirl premiered in 2015 on CBS before moving to The CW for its second season, joining the rest of the shows in the Arrowverse franchise. The Girl of Steel would join her DC counterparts in the annual Arrowverse crossovers, appearing on episodes of Arrow, The Flash, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, and Batwoman. Though she did not appear directly on Superman and Lois, the show's existence owes a lot to Supergirl so its legacy has lived on in the years since it closed-out its six-season run in 2021.
Since hanging up her cape, Benoist has since gone on to star in Max's The Girls of the Bus and will next appear in Netflix series The Waterfront. Wood has starred in Broadway's Almost Famous and voices the lead character of He-Man in Netflix animated series Masters of the Universe: Revelation (on which Benoist also stars as Teela).
Duo will mark the fifth project that the real-life spouses have collaborated on, after Supergirl, Masters of the Universe: Revelation, and cameo appearances in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot and Clerks III.
