When Daredevil: Born Again first hit TV screens last year, superhero fans felt happy about the Devil's long-awaited return... even if the first season of his Disney+ show didn't quite live up to the heights set by its Netflix predecessor. Part of the problem was due to the fact that there was a creative reboot mid-production, which meant the final result was a bit of a Frankenstein-esque experience, mixing episodes filmed by both the old and new creative teams. As a result, everyone was expecting Season 2 to be better in every aspect, but few could've anticipated it would get this explosive this fast.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Episode 4 hits like a punch to the face thrown by the Kingpin himself. It's a ticking time bomb that concludes in the most catastrophic way possible. So, before we break everything down and explain what the episode's ending means for the future of the series, beware: There will be major spoilers ahead. I truly recommend going into this episode blind, as it contains some of the best Daredevil action and storytelling in the entire Disney+ show.

Still here? Great, then you already know crime doesn't pay, regardless of whether you are the mayor of New York City or not.
What Vanessa's death means for the future of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2
In comic book pages, Vanessa Fisk died twice; the first time due to a terminal illness, and the second time at the hands of her own husband, the Kingpin of Crime. As a result, fans were expecting her to bite the dust on the small screen as well, but few could've imagined it would happen so soon.
Ever since Bullseye was freed from prison near the end of Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, Wilson Fisk and Vanessa had to be extremely careful about their every move. The former, especially, felt dread every step of the way, even wanting to leave the criminal landscape behind in favor of a simpler life free of danger. As a result, Wilson Fisk decided to organize an entire charity event just to capture and kill Bullseye once and for all, but this idea backfired (quite literally).
Benjamin Poindexter threw a glass globe at Vanessa, and although Wilson Fisk managed to intercept the projectile mid-air, one single shard of glass was enough to put an end to her life. Vanessa is no more, and that can only mean trouble for New York City, which now has a mayor with nothing left to lose.

Even before its release, we knew that Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 would mark the end of the Mayor Fisk storyline, and now we know why. Fisk has been trying his best to keep up appearances and act as the city's angel when in reality he's the devil in disguise. However, now that his wife is gone, he's likely to use all of his power for his own benefit, regardless of whether it shows his true face or not. After all, Governor McCaffrey made it very clear that she would only support Wilson Fisk because of Vanessa. So now that she's gone, the days of the Red Hook port being used as a free port are coming to an end. But Wilson will make the most out of the port before that happens.
In comic book pages, Vanessa is brought back to life by The Hand after her first death. But while the criminal organization is bound to make a comeback in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it is unlikely that Vanessa is a part of their plans. With that in mind, we can expect an even more unhinged and unpredictable Kingpin moving forward. Remember: She was the only person capable of tempering her husband's darker impulses.
There's a slight chance that Vanessa will survive such a catastrophic event (just as happened in Netflix's Daredevil: Season 1). However, the accident will likely have a big ripple effect on Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. Regardless of the outcome of this scenario, Fisk will go after the vigilantes "terrorizing" his city even more aggressively now, and we cannot wait to see how it all pans out.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is now streaming on Disney+.
