It may be hard to believe, but the release of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 will mark ten years since the introduction of the Man Without Fear on the small screen. Matt Murdock's journey has been almost a decade in the making — which has been enough time for the iconic hero to face many super villains, lose his faith, team up with The Defenders, join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, regain his faith, save the day with She-Hulk, and suffer the loss of the one closest to him. But for as much as he has done so far, there's one particular (and highly demanded) storyline that has been evading him for years now.
While Matt Murdock may be a man of fashion, Daredevil has been anything but. Sure, he rocked the iconic red suit during the second season of his Netflix series and in that one episode of Echo. But for more often than not, we've seen him wear the black "home-made" costume. Unfortunately, Matt also dropped the superhero mantle (along with his attire) during the first five episodes of Daredevil: Born Again. So "Red"—as Punisher would say—hasn't been all that red so far.
To make matters worse, The Man Without Fear has never sported the iconic "DD" logo on any iteration of his super suit. Even amidst popular demand, the iconic emblem has been evading him for four complete seasons of television (including The Defenders) and three cameo appearances. Fortunately, those days are finally coming to an end, and we couldn't be any more excited.
Daredevil's suit will finally have a logo in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2
New set photos of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 give us our first look at Matt's new suit, and it's simply gorgeous. It is completely black except for the eyes and the big red logo. It only took almost a decade, but we're finally here! Daredevil's look is complete for the first time in ages, and the wait was certainly worth it. Interestingly enough, his "new" iteration of the costume appears to be the same one Matt wears in the first season of Daredevil: Born Again, except spray-painted black. So the question then becomes: What prompted the change in the color palette? Well, maybe we won't have to wait long to find out.
A different set photo reveals that Matt will wear the new "Shadowland" suit right from the beginning of the second season. That means he either creates it during the opening minutes of the first episode, gets ahold of it off-camera, or (more likely) crafts it at the last moments of the current season of Daredevil: Born Again. While it's just pure speculation on our part, there's a chance that the finale will reveal why Matt needs a change of look and perhaps even give us a full-reveal in anticipation of what's to come.
In comic book pages, Matt's secret identity was made public, and he had to move away to San Francisco as a result. Once he finally returned to Hell's Kitchen, he wore the iconic black and red Shadowland costume. Similarly, Matt Murdock hasn't been living in Hell's Kitchen anymore during the first season of Born Again, so perhaps the new TV costume will signal the devil's return to his home neighborhood as well. Furthermore, it could also signal that Matt's secret will be revealed for the whole world to know, explaining why he and Karen will be disguised when walking the streets of New York City (as revealed by a set video).
Whether Matt will create the Shadowland costume because his secret identity was given away or not, it's nice to see him with the "DD" logo at long last. It may seem like a rather small change, but it's one that makes all the difference for the better. Daredevil is here to stay, and he has never looked any better.
Daredevil: Born Again is now streaming on Disney Plus.
