Few people live on the edge as much as Daredevil, but his fans certainly do. The last few weeks have been an unpredictable rollercoaster ride that kicked off with news that the character's Disney+ show Daredevil: Born Again will come to an end after the third season. The announcement caught many off guard, especially since the Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation at Marvel Studios, Brad Winderbaum, stated that the original plan was for the Marvel Cinematic Universe series to have "infinite" yearly releases.
In the midst of all the chaos, fans had a reason to celebrate. Marvel attended New York Comic-Con and officially announced that the Defenders will be back in action in Daredevil: Born Again season 3. Furthermore, the first footage from the series was also showcased, featuring a one-shot prison riot scene that looks as violent and exhilarating as fans have come to expect. However, the excitement for this first peek was quickly interrupted by a wave of leaks that could reveal how Matt Murdock's story will come to an end (for the time being, at least).
The plot and ending of Daredevil: Born Again season 3 have seemingly leaked online
With the news that Daredevil: Born Again season 3 would be the last, it was also revealed that showrunner Dario Scardapane's contract with Marvel had expired. That means he won't oversee the series through post-production, which certainly raised some eyebrows. To make matters more complicated, it was also reported that Marvel was trying to rewrite the ending to make it feel more like a true finale, and some of these new plot points may have made their way online.
But before we continue, be warned: there are potential spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again season 3 ahead. If you don't want to know what the future holds in store for the protector of Hell's Kitchen, it's best to turn back now.
For starters, it has been reported that Bullseye will have a pivotal role in Daredevil: Born Again season 3. While the villain's true motivations weren't unveiled, Benjamin Poindexter will try to kill Luke Cage's daughter (but fail), try to kill Elektra (and succeed), kill Mr. Charles with a deck of playing cards, and detonate a prison bomb to break Matt Murdock free, killing a lot of guards and inmates in the process. You know, just a normal day in Dex's life.
So, if Matt is broken out of prison, does that mean he'll have to spend the rest of his days living as an outlaw and hiding from everyone? Fortunately, that won't be the case. The leak also claims that a major plot point for Daredevil: Born Again season 3 will see Luke Cage trying to become mayor of New York City. By the season finale, he'll succeed in his mission, claim New York will be "born again," and pardon Matt Murdock.
Lady Muse and Buck will be in a relationship, although the latter will end up killing the former. Last but certainly not least, it has been reported that Daredevil: Born Again season 3 will end with Matt Murdock hanging up his superhero suit in favor of living a simple life with Karen Page. But before the credits roll, Matt will hear a second heartbeat coming from Karen, indicating she's pregnant.
Of course, it's always important to take any rumors with a grain of salt. But even if the recent plot leaks turn out to be true, the role of the Defenders remains under wraps, as does the Kingpin's (who was present in the Daredevil: Born Again season 3 footage shown to NYCC attendees).
While Marvel has confirmed that Daredevil: Born Again will hit the screen in 2027, a proper release date still eludes us. But given that the first two seasons premiered in March, it isn't far-fetched to assume a similar scenario will be in store once again. So if that were to happen, it shouldn't be too long before we discover how this street-level tale comes to an end.
Daredevil: Born Again season 3 will be released in 2027 on Disney+.
