It's been nearly six years since the third (and last season) of Marvel's Daredevil was released on Netflix. Since then, we've seen The Man Without Fear make a few small appearances in projects such as Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. But even then, we have yet to watch him as the frontman of his own project in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's been a long wait for sure, but one that's finally coming to an end.

With just a little under two months until the release of Daredevil: Born Again, its first official trailer was finally released (talk about a long time coming). Better yet; it appears it aims to keep the same dark tone and level of violence we came to expect from the highly-acclaimed Netflix adaptation. Matt Murdock, Wilson Fisk, and Frank Castle are in for a very dark ride — one that has every right to be the best MCU series to date if the trailer is anything to go by.

The Kingpin has a new rival

The Kingpin is no stranger to appearing in MCU projects. He was the mastermind behind the events of the Hawkeye series, and he also faced Maya Lopez in Echo. But it appears his role in Daredevil: Born Again will have a great twist. The trailer implies the infamous supervillain will be forced to team up with Matt Murdock to face an even greater evil. That will allow for a very interesting and extremely volatile character dynamic. After all, you'd imagine this pairing will not last long, especially considering Wilson's new master plan (but more on that later).

The trailer also gave us a new look at the supervillain Muse, who may be the cause behind Matt and Wilson's unlikely team-up. His introduction will bring multiple problems to an already crime-filled Hell's Kitchen. Besides, one thing's for sure; he'd have to be a really big and potentially scary threat to unite former enemies Daredevil and Kingpin. Fortunately, we can look at the source material to get a better idea of who exactly is he.

In comic book pages, Muse is a deranged "artist" who kidnaps people and uses their blood to create twisted murals and draw the attention of authorities. He killed many on his path to create "beautiful" works of art until he was arrested and, subsequently, died by his own choice. In the D23 Daredevil: Born Again trailer, we hear a line revealing that people have gone missing in Hell's Kitchen, so it's likely that Muse is behind all of these disappearances. Furthermore, we now see a shot of people hanging inside a warehouse here, likely being all an act of Muse. Now, it's a matter of finding out how will Matt bring him down.

Frank Castle will also have a role to play, marking the first time we see the character in the MCU. While it's still unknown how he'll factor into the story, we now officially now that Wilson Fisk will become the Mayor of New York, and it's rumored he'll outlaw all vigilantes in the City in Daredevil: Born Again, just as it happened in comic book pages in Devil's Reign. If that turns out to be true, then it would explain why the Punisher and Daredevil are hunted down by armed agents as shown in the teaser trailer. So chances are the two will be forced to join forces to escape Wilson's new influence.

A spiritual successor to the Netflix series

There was a time were Daredevil: Born Again was trying to distance itself as much as possible from the Netflix adaptation and attempt to be its own unique thing. However, thanks to the series' creative reboot, that won't be the case anymore as evidenced in the trailer. We got a glimpse at the return of fan-favorite characters such as Elden Henson's Foggy Nelson, Deborah Ann Woll's Karen Page, Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin, Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle, and even Wilson Bethel's Bullseye. It's nice to know the full supporting cast will be back especially since that wasn't initially the case. Now, it's all but confirmed Daredevil: Born Again will follow the same storyline as the Netflix series.

Better yet; it seems the series' tone remains intact as we have little glimpses of crude and violent fight scenes, brutal murders, tense dialogs between characters, and a confirmation that many people have gone missing in Hell's Kitchen. That's certainly a relief for fans of the franchise who weren't so sure if Disney would make the hero justice. All signs seem to point that we'll get more of what made the Netflix adaptation so popular, and we wouldn't want it any other way.

2025 will be a stacked year for superhero fans. Since the release of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man on Jan. 29, 2025, we'll get no shortage of amazing projects both from Marvel and DC. However, anticipation is at an all-time high for the return of the Devil of Hell's Kitchen along with grounded MCU storylines. So fingers the series as a whole it's just as good as the trailer makes it out to be.

On the bright side, we don't have to wait long until we figure out if Marvel made TV history once again with the very same character. Daredevil: Born Again will be released on Disney+ on March 4.
