The Arrowverse was a force to be reckoned with throughout its decade-long stint on TV screens. The DC TV shared universe of superheroes allowed the comic book genre to dominate the small screen in a way that it already was dominating the big screen, introducing audiences to a new wave of consistent superhero television that we hadn't seen since the '60s and the '70s.
It all started with Arrow, which premiered on The CW in 2012, and then it grew into a phenomenon shortly after that, adding shows such as The Flash, Supergirl, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, Black Lightning and the Arrowverse-adjacent outings DC's Stargirl and Superman and Lois. Although it ended prematurely due to shifts behind-the-scenes at both The CW and Warner Bros., its legacy lives on in all of the actors who performed in the shows over the years and the fans who adored each and every one of them.
In a rather exciting development, one Arrowverse star is now set to take on a new challenge, bringing her heroics to the dancefloor.
Arrow's Alex Kingston joins Strictly Come Dancing's 2025 series
Arrow star and acting legend Alex Kingston has signed up for BBC's beloved Strictly Come Dancing. Announced as the third celebrity to be taking part in this year's upcoming 23rd series of the beloved ballroom dancing competition, Kingston voiced her excitement to be joining with a simple: "Aaaaagghhh!!!!!!".
Thus far, she is joined by Olympic sprinter and Gladiators star Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, Premier League footballer & manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, EastEnders star Balvinder Sopal, and Love Island star Dani Dyer (daughter of British actor and EastEnders legend Danny Dyer). The rest of the celebrities will be announced over the next month ahead Strictly's return in September.
Kingston is best-known for her role as River Song in Doctor Who as well as her role as Dr. Elizabeth Corday in long-running medical drama ER. However, she is well-known to DC fans for her role as Dinah Lance in Arrow.

The mother of the Black Canary, a.k.a. Laurel Lance, Dinah was a significant part of the show's early seasons as she spent a lot of time on-screen mourning the death of her daughter Sara Lance, who had seemingly died before the show began. In an unexpected turn of events, it was eventually revealed that Sara was alive, taking on the moniker of the vigilante known as The Canary before she was killed again (this time on-screen). In a cruel twist of fate, her sister Laurel would carry on Sara's legacy as the Black Canary (while also resurrecting Sara along the way) before she was ultimately killed in the show's most controversial decision throughout its eight-season run.
Kingston's Dinah unfortunately spent a lot of time grieving her daughters during her Arrow appearances and it often left fans wishing that the show had given her character something else to do. Dinah Lance is the name of the Black Canary in the DC Comics, so fans were hoping to see Kingston get the chance to be a Canary herself at some point in time, emulating the comics, but it ultimately didn't happen.
Kingston's other notable credits include her BAFTA-nominated performance in ITV's The Fortunes and Misfortunes of Moll Flanders, Lost in Austen, Law and Order: SVU, and A Discovery of Witches. Her roles in Doctor Who, Arrow, and ER have ensured that she has made a huge impact on the world of pop-culture, so there is no doubt that her fans will be tuning in to see her Foxtrot and Waltz her way across the Strictly dancefloor.
