UPDATE: The Calyface trailer is now expected to drop later than anticipated. This post has been updated to reflect the newer planned release times.

DC Studios is set to have a pretty big year. Supergirl will be arriving in theaters this summer while Lanterns lights up the HBO Max streaming service, but it will also look to continue the buzz into the fall. In what is perhaps the studio's most unique project yet, Clayface will arrive in theaters in October and it promises to be very different to most of the fare that the superhero genre has to offer right now.

After much anticipation, the first trailer is almost upon us. This comes after the early footage was unveiled at CinemaCon, teasing audiences at the event with a "chilling" first look at the film. Now, it gets to do that with a wider audience, and here's when you can anticipate it.

The first Clayface trailer is expected later today

The first trailer for Clayface is set to be released today, Wednesday April 22. Although it was initially expected to surface earlier, insiders are now expecting it to premiere in the US at 3:00 pm ET, 12:00 pm PT, 1:00 p.m. MT, and 2:00 p.m. CT. This is the typical trailer release window for DC Universe movies, with the likes of Superman and Supergirl previously unveiling their first look previews in this specific timeslot as well.

Naturally, trailer releases are global events, so, here are the expected release times for the first Clayface trailer around the world, including in areas such as the UK, India, and Australia:

  • New Zealand: 7:00 a.m. NZST on Thursday, April 23

Note: It's worth pointing out that, as DC Studios hasn't outright confirmed the exact window, it could be shifted to later in the evening. Even so, there's no reason to think that it won't surface today as James Gunn has unveiled the first poster, confirming that the marketing has begun. Keep an eye on the DC Universe social media accounts just to be sure.

Clayface stars Tom Rhys Harries as actor Matt Hagen. The DC Comics character will reportedly undergo a brutal attack before he evolves into the iconic Batman villain known as Clayface in a tale that is expected to portray a tragic fall from grace as the former leading man struggles with his new visage - potentially turning to a life of crime in the process. Based on CinemaCon descriptions, it's likely taking its cues from the critically-acclaimed "Feat of Clay" two-parter from the Emmy Award-winning Batman: The Animated Series. And any story that honors that series stands a very good chance of delivering.

DC officially launched the ClayfaceMovie social media handles, which has begun teasing fans with the upcoming trailer release. That involves the first official look at Harries as Matt Hagen (which can be seen above) and a newspaper clipping recounting the character's brutal attack:

Although the teaser trailer was originally expected to premiere during DC Studios' typical 12 pm ET timeslot, it appears that they reserved this particular window to unveil the first poster instead. Insiders are now reporting that it will surface three hours after that instead.

James Gunn took to social media to unveil the first poster and it is really quite something:

Directed by James Watkins from a script written by horror legend Mike Flanagan, the DCU movie is described as being a body horror, with a focus on practical effects - allowing for a respectable budget of $60 million. Considering the character's relative mainstream appeal, the appetite for low-budget horror, and the Halloween release window, this one could be a real sleeper hit of 2026 - and another check in the win column for James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Universe.

And yes, Clayface is set in the same continuity as Gunn and Safran's other projects, including Superman, Supergirl, Peacemaker season 2, Lanterns and upcoming films Man of Tomorrow and The Brave and the Bold. Both creatives have been upfront that all projects will have their own unique, distinct tones while also fitting into the overall larger-than-life story of the DC Universe.

Clayface arrives in movie theaters on October 23, 2026.
