Everyone deserves a second chance, especially some of the greatest superheroes ever created. At this point, it isn't a secret that he previous iteration of DC Extended Universe failed to meet fans' expectations. However, a blank slate is now upon us, and the very first strokes of paint will come on Jul. 11, 2025, with the release of Superman.
The Man of Steel's upcoming adventure—along with the Creature Commandos animated series—are just the first in a brand new slate of projects set in a fresh DC Universe. Batman will eventually be the star of The Brave and the Bold, both Hal Jordan and John Stewart will steal the spotlight on the Lanterns show, and many more adaptations featuring iconic heroes will be released soon. Many DC projects are coming our way, and the best part is that this is only the beginning. James Gunn merely announced one part of the first chapter of DCU, titled Gods and Monsters. That means other surprises are sure to be in store.
With two out of the three members in DC's holy trinity having projects of their own, many wondered if Diana Prince would eventually get to have the spotlight. Fortunately, after months of speculation, we finally have an official answer.

A new Wonder Woman movie set in the DCU is officially in the works
When DC Studios co-chairman and CEO James Gunn announced the slate of DCU projects coming in the upcoming years, he talked about Paradise Lost — a TV series set in Themyscira, described as Game of Thrones with all the inhabitants of Paradise Island. Many wondered if it would indirectly act as Diana Prince's stand-alone project, but that won't be the case.
During a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, James Gunn revealed that a Wonder Woman movie is currently being written, and it will be a separate project from Paradise Lost:
"Wonder Woman's a separate thing. We're working on Wonder Woman. [It's] being written right now."
Gunn also confirmed that the role of Wonder Woman hasn't been cast, which all but confirms we'll see a new iteration of the character separate from that of Gal Gadot. General consensus among fans is that Adria Arjona would be a perfect candidate for the role, given her likeness to the beloved hero, as well as the fact that she's effortlessly stolen the spotlight in big franchises such as Star Wars' Andor. Not only that, but the iconic actress is aware of the fan-casting and has asked fans to help her make it a reality by writing to James Gunn about it.
Unfortunately, no release date or window was revealed for the Wonder Woman movie. That being said, it wouldn't be too far-fetched to assume it's still a long way off. The next DCU film set after Superman is Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which will be released on June 26, 2026. Then, we get Clayface to look forward to, which will also come next year. Every project afterward is expected to arrive in 2027 at the earliest, and given that Wonder Woman was just recently announced (and that the script is still being written), maybe it can hit theaters in 2028 or 2029.
Fortunately, it seems the wait will certainly be worth it. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, James Gunn hinted that all the roads will lead to an eventual Justice League project. When asked if such an anticipated crossover is part of the Gods and Monsters DCU chapter, he answered with a simple yet direct "sure". That plan seems more likely than ever now that Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman are all set to have their own standalone projects before potentially coming together. With a bit of luck, the road to a Justice League movie will be just as enjoyable as the destination.
