There are a lot of things that Marvel fans are excited about when it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Multiverse Saga is about to reach its peak, setting the stage for a lengthy, compelling conclusion to that particular narrative. The Avengers are set to reunite for two major upcoming movies. And Robert Downey Jr. is back in the MCU franchise in the new role of the villainous Doctor Doom. Yes, there is a lot going on in the MCU right now. And yet, at the top of that list of things that fans are most excited for sits the X-Men.

Ever since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox (and allowed the rights of the X-Men to transfer back to Marvel), audiences have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Marvel's Mightiest Mutants in the MCU. After a number of years, the stage is set for their arrival in the upcoming X-Men movie that is now in development. And before they even arrive, the Multiverse Saga has allowed Marvel to bring back some beloved actors who played the previous live-action incarnations of the heroes, including Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.

But as the studio sets its sights on introducing their own versions of the characters, reports indicate that the casting process has begun. One report in particular claims that a beloved DC star could be the one to bring one of the most imperative X-Men to life.

Marvel rumored to be eyeing Brenton Thwaites to play Cyclops in the MCU

According to a new report from scooper account Marvel News, Marvel Studios is reportedly eyeing Brenton Thwaites to play Cyclops in an upcoming film within the MCU. Now, it doesn't outright state which film the DC star could appear in, but if Cyclops were to be introduced in the near-future, it would very likely mean that the actor playing him would serve as the MCU's official version of the character, ultimately returning for the planned X-Men movie after the Multiverse Saga.

The report has already gained quite a lot of traction online, with fans theorizing about whether the actor would be a great pick for the role if Marvel were to announce him as the hero. There have been many opinions shared on the matter thus far, but the consensus does seem to be that he would be a great choice, even if it were something of an unexpected one. But that just goes to show you how much people are invested in the character.

Cyclops is one of the most important X-Men roles of all, and it isn't just because he is the leader of the team. Scott Summers is a force-to-be-reckoned with who has endured throughout the years in the pages of Marvel Comics, even when faced with great adversity and threat. He's also one of their most complex, as one of Professor Charles Xavier's most trusted students, he often has to make calls that involve him either doing as Professor X asks or doing what's best for the team (even if that means ignoring his orders).

Thwaites is no stranger to playing iconic comic book characters, and he's particularly familiar with playing ones that lead legendary comic book teams, for he played Dick Grayson, a.k.a. Nightwing (formerly Robin) in DC's Titans. The DC Universe-turned-Max series ran for four seasons and it was extremely popular with fans, with the only reason for its premature ending being the decision to launch a brand new shared universe consisting of one single continuity. And Thwaites' character was quite possibly the most popular of them all, as Dick had to learn to put his demons aside and lead his team of young heroes as they fought all kinds of threats within the DC Universe.

As always when it comes to Marvel rumors, the report has not been officially confirmed by the studio, so it's best to take it with a pinch of salt until any announcements are made. But with the casting for the X-Men characters already underway, another recent report of the studio showing interest in a CW star for Rogue, and the in-development X-Men movie on the horizon, it is very clear that now is a very exciting time to be a fan of the iconic, beloved, mighty Mutants.

Given Thwaites' experience in the live-action comic book field, and as a leader of a superhero team in recent memory, it goes without saying that he would be an incredible choice to bring Scott Summers to life.
