Sometimes, a franchise like the Marvel Cinematic Universe can surprise fans. In fact, most of the time it does. And it has made a living off doing that for almost 20 years. We've seen surprise announcements, unexpected comebacks, and genuinely jaw-dropping moments throughout the franchise's 37 movies and 12 TV shows. It's a thrill to be a fan of the MCU because you just never know what surprises Kevin Feige and co. will throw your way.

Except this time, we might. We know that a major day is coming up for Marvel Studios fans, and according to a recent report, that day might be upon the fandom. It also might be a whole week earlier than anticipated, too!

The first Avengers: Doomsday trailer might have a release date of December 11

Buckle up, Avengers fans for the time we've been waiting for might be upon us! Veteran insider Daniel Richtman has confirmed that Disney is expected to release a major trailer on December 11, 2025. And, well, needless to say that Avengers: Doomsday is the likely candidate.

The MCU tentpole may still be a year away, but it's pretty clear that both Disney and Marvel Studios are going to start building anticipation with mainstream audiences now. The best way to do that is an early teaser trailer that reminds us all that Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the long-standing franchise in the new role of the Multiverse Saga's big villain, Doctor Doom. And they just might have the perfect place to release that.

In November, a number of reports began to make their way around the internet suggesting that the upcoming fifth Avengers movie would have its first trailer attached to Avatar: Fire and Ash in movie theaters. Those reports were never refuted, which largely suggested that they were real, giving MCU fans hope that they might see the first look at Avengers: Doomsday in movie theaters on December 19. This new report, however, suggests that we'll get to see it a whole week earlier.

And honestly, that would make sense, as it would ensure that the first look goes wide to every location at the same time and that Marvel wouldn't have to worry about leaked versions filmed from theaters making their way online before the official release does. So, releasing it a week in advance - in anticipation of Avatar 3's theatrical release - would be a wise idea. Speaking of wise ideas...

Pairing the Avengers trailer with Avatar 3 is a good decision

Regardless of when the Avengers: Doomsday trailer comes out, attaching it to the Avatar: Fire and Ash release is a work of genius. The first two Avatar movies have grossed $2 billion each and anticipation is high for the third one. The only movie capable of defeating Avatar as box office champ in the 16 years since its release was 2019's Avengers: Endgame, which did claim the No. 1 spot until a re-release of the 2009 movie put it back to the top. Putting the two titans together by positioning Doomsday's trailer ahead of each Avatar 3 screening will help the preview reach its widest audience possible.

Marvel Studios has taken a number of hits in recent years, with the Multiverse Saga not having quite as seamless of a journey towards its conclusion as the Infinity Saga of the 2010s did. This is considered to be down to the franchise's overexposure via the multitude of movies and Disney Plus shows that were released between 2021 and 2024, as well as the fact that some of the films in particular were of a much lower standard than Marvel is used to producing.

With that in mind, Avengers: Doomsday has to work to ensure that the Multiverse Saga gets off to the conclusion that it needs - and deserves. While there is no doubt that an Avengers movie will be a big draw, the franchise's recent disconnect with the mainstream audiences, as well as the fact that the film doesn't feature all of the original Avengers makes it a bit of a risk - especially since we're off the back of a number of underperformers at the box office. And therefore, it's important that Marvel gets the word out early. Leaning on the huge audience that Avatar 3 will bring in might just do that!
