The last few months have provided Batman fans with news about The Batman Part 2. After a series of delays, the film was expected to premiere in October of 2026 but it was ultimately pushed to 2027, meaning that it will be over five years after the release of the first film that its sequel arrives in theaters. Star Robert Pattinson jokes that he’d retire after the trilogy ended because he’d be too old as it is taking unexpectedly long for the second installment to make its big-screen debut. After the most recent news, that could become a possibility.
But fans of the Matt Reeves franchise have been entertained with spinoff TV series The Penguin, which has again earned the franchise critical acclaim as it bridged the gap between the 2022 film and the upcoming sequel. Speaking of the sequel, star Robert Pattinson recently spoke to Deadline about when production is expected to begin.

During the interview, Pattinson said filming would begin at the end of the year, acknowledging that it seems so long ago since the first movie. Considering that the sequel isn’t coming out until 2027, it makes sense.
But the constant changes won’t leave people with much hope. It doesn’t help that DC and Warner Bros have canceled finished products in the past (among them being Coyote vs. Acme and Batgirl), alongside a host of other film and TV projects that were either in production or had yet to begin. The last thing any DC Comics fan wants is this film to be cut. Thankfully, the success of both the first film in Matt Reeves' franchise and The Penguin will likely prevent that.

Just how "cool" could The Batman Part 2 be?
On the positive side of things, Robert Pattinson said that The Batman 2's storyline is “cool”. Normally, that isn’t a lot to go on, but this writer chooses to believe what Pattinson is saying. After all, there isn't much known about the sequel as of yet, so if the star thinks it's cool, then it very could be!
Also, if we want to become conspiracy theorists about his quote, we could become Charlie in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and speculate about his choice of words. He said it looked "cool" - a word that Batman fans are all too familiar with (yes, we're referring to the infamous Batman and Robin ice puns). Could this be a subtle nod that Mr. Freeze is on his way to the silver screen? Is Pattinson saying that Victor Fries could join Matt Reeves' The Batman franchise?
It might not seem like that big of a deal on the surface, but fans have been speculating about which villain could be the next one that the Caped Crusader faces in the film series, and Mr. Freeze is one that came up. Given that the Reeves Universe adapts Bat-villains in a relatively grounded fashion, the "Ice Man" would fit the bill due to his tragic, emotional backstory featuring wife Nora Fries - a story created by the critically-acclaimed Batman: The Animated Series.
Are we getting Mr. Freeze vs The Dark Knight in The Batman Part 2? Who knows. However, when the news is released, Bam Smack Pow will be here to report it.
