The Marvel Cinematic Universe is approaching the end of its Multiverse Saga, and everyone knows what that means: An Avengers movie is on the horizon (or two of them, in this case). Earth's Mightiest Heroes will finally assemble after a seven-year hiatus, and expectations couldn't be any higher. The only problem? There hasn't been any build-up towards the impending arrival of Doctor Doom, which feels off considering he should be established as the next big bad to fear. On the bright side, there are still a few places where we might see his debut. Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released before Avengers: Doomsday, and, of course, we also have The Fantastic Four: First Steps to look forward to.
Fans have waited years to see Marvel's First Family join the MCU, and that day is nearly here. Following the incredible critical success of Thunderbolts*, we're all eager to discover if the upcoming movie will be able to keep the momentum going. But perhaps a bigger question in play is: Will the long-standing superhero tradition of featuring post-credits scenes remain in place? Well, we finally have a spoiler-free answer.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps has 2 post-credits scenes
It's almost time for liftoff. With just a few days until the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, early screenings have already started to take place, and it's been officially confirmed that the movie has two post-credits scenes. While it wasn't revealed what happens in them (which is for the better), it wouldn't be too far-fetched to assume they will tie into the bigger MCU.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be a more self-contained origin story than we're used to from Marvel. After all, it will take place in a retro-futuristic alternate reality where no other heroes exist aside from the big four (which means any shocking cameos aren't to be expected). Moreover, director Matt Shakman confirmed that he didn't direct any scenes with Doctor Doom.
That being said, fans have speculated that there's a slight possibility that one of the movie's post-credits scenes was helmed by the Russo Brothers, and it will feature the Ruler of Latveria himself. It wouldn't be the first time something similar happened, as the Thunderbolts* post-credits scene was also directed by the duo of brothers. But why is that such a likely possibility? Well, because time is running out for Doom to make his debut before he takes over the multiverse.
Granted, we shouldn't rule out the idea that The Fantastic Four: First Steps post-credits scenes don't showcase anything of importance. After all, Superman followed a similar path, and it wouldn't be the first time in the MCU when something like that happens (looking at you, Spider-Man: Homecoming). However, it's also unlikely that Marvel would waste one of its last opportunities to set up one of their biggest movies to date.
It's also worth remembering that the Thunderbolts* final moments revealed that Marvel's First Family will travel from their home reality into the MCU. So, there's also a chance that we see their escape—and the reason behind it—in the post-credits scenes of The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Still, the most likely chance is that there will be some Doom tease. Wouldn't it be perfect for the supervillain's MCU debut to take place in a Fantastic Four movie?
On the bright side, it won't be long before we get some much-needed answers for ourselves. The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be released on Jul. 25, 2025.
