Foggy Nelson didn't appear in the Daredevil: Born Again season 2 finale, but not all hope is lost

Unfortunately, Foggy Nelson's appearance was relegated to episode 5 alone, which mostly acted as a flashback sequence. The iconic lawyer was nowhere to be seen from that point onwards, which means he didn't make his long-awaited comeback during the season finale.

Daredevil: Born Again star, Charlie Cox, unveiled that there were discussions to bring Foggy back as early as the finale of season 1. However, the creative team decided against it because they "didn't believe it was realistic." Furthermore, the series' showrunner, Dario Scardapane, doubled down on this idea during an interview with Nexus Point News, by stating:

"This is Marvel, man. You have characters playing other characters 10 years later. Anything can happen, but in our story, the loss of Foggy is very real and has a very real impact on Matt for the entirety of the story. I think you see that in episode 5, where this layer cake that we made of Matt contemplating forgiving the man who killed Foggy, and remembering Foggy’s kind of commitment to mercy, that stuff only really works if Foggy’s gone-gone."

So, for all intents and purposes, Foggy seems to be gone... except we already have an idea of what will happen in Daredevil: Born Again season 3. If you're up to date on the Man Without Fear's ongoing adventure, you already know Matt Murdock willingly revealed that he's Daredevil, and he was sent to jail for all of his crimes committed as a "vigilante." That only means one thing: we're about to witness an adaptation of The Devil In Cell-Block D, a popular comic book storyline that has no shortage of shocking moments.

During the very first issue of The Devil In Cell-Block D run, Foggy was "killed" by an inmate while visiting his best friend, Matt Murdock, in prison. However, the storyline concluded with the revelation that Foggy never died and was instead taken as part of a witness protection program. Foggy was given a new name and a new home, and he spent many days far away from his closest friends. Ultimately, he returns to the place he belongs, and he and Matt get to share many more iconic moments together.

If we're bound to witness an adaptation of The Devil In Cell-Block D on the small screen, then there's a slight chance that Foggy is revealed to be alive next year. After all, the character's death certainly helped the storyline of Daredevil: Born Again seasons 1 and 2. However, now would be the perfect time for the beloved lawyer to make his return and help his best friend escape prison.

Only time will tell whether we'll see more of Foggy on our screens. However, one thing is very clear: There's plenty more Daredevil action coming our way, and we can't wait to see how it all pans out.

Daredevil: Born Again season 2 is now streaming on Disney+.
