Marvel Studios and Dunkin’s marketing campaign is in full swing, with a large assembly of Avengers: Doomsday-inspired food and drinks. From the Iced Captain’ccino to the Optic Blast Lemonade, there is something for every Marvel fan to choose from. There are also various tumblers and cup sleeves, while the most coveted collectible might be the Doctor Doom Munchkin Tin, which comes with 25 Avengers munchkins.

The corresponding commercial is pure silly entertainment that will make anyone who loves both Marvel and Dunkin’ smile. Channing Tatum’s riotous Cajun-accented Gambit discusses the impending Doomsday with the Fantastic Four’s robot Herbie and calls the Avengers munchkins “fuel for the fight." Watch the commercial below.

Perhaps the most exciting news from the promotional collaboration is that four Dunkin’ restaurants will be transforming in preparation for Avengers: Doomsday. Starting November 17, lucky fans who live near four of the countries’ biggest cities can visit the closest location. Los Angeles will have a Fantastic Four theme, Chicago gets the X-Men, while New York City will claim the Avengers, and a Dunkin’ in Boston will be taken over by Doctor Doom.

The tagline for this event is “Four Cities. Four Worlds. One Epic Takeover." Then the press release includes this description of the movie: “Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday brings heroes from across three universes together as they face an unthinkable threat."

In an unusual sort of way, this offers some insight into the way Marvel is promoting the epic crossover. A recent Avengers: Doomsday teaser declares that “3 teams will stand as one." The new Dunkin’ campaign confirms that those three teams are the ones from three separate realities across the multiverse; the Sacred Timeline Avengers (Earth-616), Earth-828’s Fantastic Four, and Earth-10005’s X-Men.

While the “three teams” line seems simple enough to decipher, anyone who has been keeping up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe knows that it is rather misleading to label all the heroes from Earth-616 as Avengers, at least from a pre-Doomsday jumping off point. The Wakandans have never worked with many of the Thunderbolts, a.k.a. The New Avengers. And Shang-Chi has only interacted with Hulk and Captain Marvel thus far.

Therefore, Earth-616 has its own mixture of heroic teams, but for advertising purposes, Marvel may just want to consider them all as "Avengers." The plot can certainly unfold in a way where our perception of what we think of as an “Avengers team” can quickly adapt within the actual Doomsday framework.

Then there is the Dunkin’ tagline that specifies the expression “four worlds." Does that suggest that Doctor Doom is from a fourth dimension, or is it just a fun phrase to include in the promotional material? Although nothing can be certain until the release of Doomsday, the assumption is that Doom hails from the same universe as the Fantastic Four.

In the end, the semantics about what team comprises of which heroes is a more superfluous discussion point compared to the key story elements that bring characters together and how those interactions play out within the narrative. And while fans have to wait to watch those events transpire in Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, they can currently enjoy Avengers-themed treats at Dunkin’. Even planning a visit to one of the decked-out Dunkin’ locations can become an MCU-related priority a full month before the movie hits theaters.
