The season finale of Agatha All Along premiered on October 30 with two final episodes. We finally see the epic conclusion of The Witches' Road and how the story ends for our beloved witches. One witch in particular was shown to make it all the way to the end and survive: Jennifer Kale.
Warning: Agatha All Along spoilers ahead (including from the final two episodes of the season!)
Jennifer Kale’s role in the series was performed captivatingly by the incredible Sasheer Zamata who embodied Kale in all her glory. When we are first introduced to Jennifer we discover that she holds a grudge over Agatha and reluctantly joins her and “Teen” on their journey to the Witches' Road despite her feelings towards Agatha. She is recruited for her mastery of witchcraft and her expertise with potions.
Jennifer has dedicated herself to being a self-help influencer and sells lotions and home remedies to her followers. She clearly has built a wall around herself to protect herself being that she has lost her power. Regardless of all this, she joins Agatha’s coven and proves herself a valuable member as the series unfolds.
As the series progresses, we learn more about Jennifer’s backstory and discover that she is unable to use her magic. She was a midwife who was invited to share her expertise when she was bound by a malevolent doctor who was shown to us during one of the trials. She never understood how he was able to do this to her. Reliving the experience of being tortured by him was devastating to watch as she clearly feared him and she felt helpless without her powers.
As the witches progress through each trial, we begin to lose a witch almost each time. Alice, Lilia, and even human Sharon all perished on the Witches' Road. We learned from Lilia that Rio is Death meaning she’s safe from the road. This leaves Agatha, Teen, and Jennifer Kale as the sole survivors as we headed into the final two episodes.
During the eighth episode of Agatha All Along, it is revealed that Agatha was the one who placed the bounding spell over Jennifer. The doctor paid Agatha for this binding spell that he used on Jennifer. This revelation infuriated Jen and fueled her grudge even more to finally having her come face to face with Agatha and perform an unbinding spell now that she knew where the binding came from. She repeated the words “I deny your power over me! You hold nothing” in a very emotional and gripping performance by Sasheer Zamata. Kale successfully breaks the bind Agatha placed on her and she is given back her pink magic and escapes the Witches' Road.
In the final sequence of the finale, Jennifer is shown emerging from the earth revealing that she not only survived the Witches' Road but escaped Westview with her powers.
Sasheer Zamata really delivered a wonderful performance as the High Priestess herself. It’s safe to say that this is not the last time we will see here in the MCU and I for one would love to see more from Sasheer and let her showcase the full potential of Jennifer Kale.
All nine episodes of Agatha All Along are currently streaming only on Disney+.
