Unfortunately, the rumors were seemingly true. After weeks of speculation from fans about a particular beloved Marvel series' future on the Disney Plus streaming service, it has been confirmed that there are no new episodes of the series expected at this time.
Marvel Studios has been restructuring its film and television release plans, meaning that some intended titles are no longer expected to release. This came after the underperformances of various Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, including films Eternals, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and The Marvels - all of which have reportedly had planned sequels cancelled - and Disney Plus shows She-Hulk: Attorney At Law and Ms. Marvel - which have also reportedly had planned second seasons nixed.
Now, it seems that we can officially add another beloved title to that list, as a major source has confirmed that Marvel and Disney Plus have officially stopped producing new episodes of it. The sad thing is: It's one of the longest-standing shows, too.
No new episodes of Marvel Studios: Assembled will release
It's officially the end of the line for Marvel Studios: Assembled. The beloved MCU companion series had been on fans' radar for some time as there was the worry that either Marvel or Disney Plus had opted to cancel it (due to the lack of new episodes in recent months) and now those suspicions have been confirmed. TVLine, responding to a query from a concerned fan, did some investigating and found out that fans shouldn't expect to see new episodes anytime soon, saying:
"I love me a Marvel Studios: Assembled episode, too; alas, I’m hearing that there are no new episodes of the Disney+ franchise planned at this time."
The most recent episode of Assembled released shortly after Disney Plus series Agatha All Along completed its run last fall. It gave a behind-the-scenes look at the beloved witchy drama, allowing us to catch up with Kathryn Hahn, Joe Locke, showrunner Jac Schaeffer, and more, with the response to the episode being extremely positive. There was, however, one notable difference to its release format: It was released exclusively on YouTube.
Over six months later and that episode of the series has not been added to the Disney Plus collection of episodes, making it the only installment of the series not to stream on the show's actual home. That's definitely unusual, and it's easy to see why fans have been raising their eyebrows when it comes to the future of the series.
Marvel Studios: Assembled has been a fixture of the franchise's Multiverse Saga, pulling back the curtain to give us all a glimpse into the production of each MCU movie and Disney Plus show. However, since Agatha last Halloween, Marvel has released Captain America: Brave New World, Daredevil: Born Again, and Thunderbolts* - all of which have had no episodes of Assembled accompany their releases. That's also pretty unusual for a show that released with every single major MCU title.
The cancellation of Assembled is just another casualty in Marvel's long-line of apparent cancellations, once again highlighting its restructuring. Even being the most successful movie franchise of all time with an undefeated record at the box office didn't protect the studio from showing signs of wear and tear when it released some more experimental titles and flooded the market with more movies and TV shows than it ever had before. In order to make audiences less "used" to its regular presence, the studio is pulling back and adopting a less-is-more approach.
The hope is that this new approach will result in a quality-over-quantity output, but it also seemingly unfortunately applies to behind-the-scenes content too.
