The new and improved DC Universe is here, and 2026 is set to be its biggest year yet. After Superman was released to critical acclaim, the studio is looking to capture lightning in a bottle once again with Supergirl, which is set to hit theaters on June 26, 2026. But after the dust has settled and the heroes have finally saved the day, it will be time for a villain to plunge Gotham City into chaos.

Clayface has never been adapted for live-action before, but that's soon to change. The iconic Batman supervillain is set to have his own DCU film, even before a new version of the Caped Crusader makes his debut. As such, fans aren't sure what to expect from the upcoming body-horror project, which makes it all the more intriguing. While the movie is set to release in just six months, DC kept its lips completely sealed about what to expect. Fortunately, that time has now come to an end.

DC unveils the first Clayface poster

Meet Matt Hagen, a rising star with unlimited potential to be cast in no shortage of projects. The beloved actor is poised to take over Hollywood, and nothing could stop him... except, perhaps, a sudden and unexpected transformation into a horrifying monster. DC has unveiled the very first Clayface poster, which showcases Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen before tragedy strikes and he turns into a relentless supervillain.

While the poster itself doesn't reveal much, it does signal that DC is getting ready to unveil more about its upcoming movie. The very first Clayface trailer was unveiled at CinemaCon 2026, yet the footage was exclusive to attendees and hasn't made its way online. But now that the movie's marketing campaign has started, it shouldn't be long before we get a first teaser.

The closed-door trailer showcased a violent and horrifying project set to be different from any other DC movie produced to date. Matt Hagen was shown with red eyes and bloody bandages covering his disfigured face, before a montage delivered glimpses of the monstrous villain shape-shifting his face into a hand and his hands into weapons, much like Clayface has done in other types of media. While there was no dialogue throughout the trailer, it did give attendees an idea of the project's tone and direction.

With San Diego Comic-Con just around the corner, DC could decide to showcase the first public Clayface trailer during the event. Otherwise, perhaps there's a chance that the footage will be attached to Supergirl when it premieres later this year. Of course, there's also the chance that the trailer will be released on a seemingly normal day, taking fans by surprise.

The DCU is aiming to have a diverse lineup of projects in its early years, which range from an R-rated Peacemaker series and an uplifting Superman movie all the way to a body-horror Clayface adventure. That could be one of the universe's biggest strengths, especially during a time when superhero fatigue is often talked about. With a bit of luck, not only does Clayface manage to break the mold in terms of tone and presentation, but its first teaser will also be released soon.

Clayface will be released on Oct. 23, 2026.
